To aZZ whom it may concern: Be it known that I, NEWTON H. JONES, a

citizen of the United States, residing in the city of Philadelphia, State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in a Combined Album and Stand,

My invention relates to a combined album and supporting stand or box therefor.

It has for its object to provide in one practicallyintegral device a book or album adapted to contain and display photographic and other pictures, a hollow supporting stand therefor, and a sliding drawer within said stand, the hinged cover of which drawer when withdrawn may be thrown down to supply an inclined ledge for writing-desk purposes.

To these ends my invention consists of the combination, with a book or album, of a substantially flat hollow box, one cover of the album forming the lid of the box, a sliding drawer adapted to be inserted into and withdrawn from the interior of the box and having a hinged lid adapted when thrown down to assume an inclined position relative to the box-stand and its sliding drawer.

In the drawings illustrating my invention,

Figure 1 is an elevation in perspective of a device embodying myinvented improvement; and Fig. 2 is a vertical section thereof, showing in dotted lines the position of the sliding drawer when withdrawn and its hinged lid thrown down.

Referring to said drawings, there is represented therein a box-stand of ornamental exterior com posed of two opposite upright sides, (indicated at A in Fig. 1,) a rear vertical side B, Fig. 2, a base side 0, and the lid D thereof, which is one of the covers of the book or album E, said album-cover being, therefore, a permanent feature upon and practically an integral portion of the box-stand itself. Supports, such as knobs b, are preferably provided, chiefly for ornamental purposes. The album E is of usual character, as indicated in the drawings, save as to one of its covers, which, as before stated, is combined with the upright sides A, A, B, and O to form a hollow box open at the front. Adapted to conform to the shape and size of the interior of the box thus constructed is provided a drawer F, having a hingedlid G opening outward, the front of the drawer having, preferably,'a vertical side fextending below the base side f thereof in order to support the drawer when withdrawn at a height equal to the height of the base 0 of the box-stand. The lid G is hinged to this vertical side f of the drawer and when thrown down, as indicated in the drawings, will assume an inclined position.

In said Fig. 1 the drawer is shown withdrawn I from the hollow box-stand and the lid thrown down. It is obvious that said drawer will supply a convenient means for holding pictures, stationary, &c., and the inclined position assumed by the lid when thrown down supplies a convenient writing-desk. When the drawer is restored to normal position in the hollow box-stand, the front side fregisters with the inside edges of the sides A A of the box-stand and becomes a part thereof, and in that position of the parts the device as a whole has the appearance of an ordinary album resting upon an ordinary book-stand.

Having thus described-my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is

' 1. In a combined album and its supportingstand, the combination of asubstantially fiat hollow box-like frame having an open front, of a book having stifi or rigid covers and horizontally mounted upon said box-like frame, one of the horizontal stifi or'rigid covers of the book constituting a permanent and fixed top or cover for the box-like frame, and a sliding drawer adapted to register with the interior of the hollow box-stand.
