, M. HOFF. MEDICINE CASE' FOR PHYSICIANS. No. 603,467.
(No Model.)
Patented May' 3.1898.
/NVEN W/TNESSES. l.
' UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
MARGARET ILIOFF, OF BROOKLYN, NEW YORK.
MEDICINE-CASE FOR PHYSICIANS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Iatent No. 603,467, dated May 3, 1898.
l Application' filed December 15, 1897. Serial No. 661,926. (No model.)
To all whom `t may concern:
Be it known that I, MARGARET HOFF, a citizen of the United States, residing at Brooklyn, in the county of Kings and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Medicine-Cases for Physicians, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to a case for physicians use or for use in displaying samples or otherarticles, the object of the invention being to provide means whereby the bottles or samples contained within the case can be brought into proper position so that the labels applied thereto can be conveniently and easily read off.
The invention comprises a case for containing a number of rows of bottles or samples, a portion of which is constructed with .bracketsupports, to which is pivoted a leaf, and a second leaf, which is provided at a point contiguous to the pivots of the rst leaf with arms, which are pivoted, at their ends, also to `said supports, so that when the rst leaf,
which is provided with means for supporting bottles or samples, is swung over into position so as to be supported in an upright slanting position by means of a suitable support at its back the other leaf can be swung over onto the rst leaf, so as to be inclined in the same position, whereby when 'the Vone or the other leaf is swung over into inclined position the labels on the samples or bottles arranged on the leaf can be clearly read o, as will be fully described ...hereinafter and then pointed out in the claims.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a' perspective view of my invention, showing the case open and one of the leaves swung into inclined position, so as to permit the labels on the bottles to be conveniently seen and read. Fig. 2 is a transverse section of the closed case. Fig. 3 is a vertical transverse section of Fig. l, and Fig. 4 is a similar transverse section showing the second leaf swung over into position so as to be supported upon the first leaf; I
Referring to the drawings, A indicates the box portion of my improved case, which is provided'with an open front adapted to bel closed by the hinged front wall B, while to the back of the box is hinged the cover O, which by means of a suitable fastening is adapted to be secured to the front wall B.when the case is closed. The case is adapted to contain medicine-bottles, sample-bottles of colors, oils, duc., or any other objects which are desired to be contained in compact form and which are required to be conveniently displayed. In the present form of the invention the case is shown as adapted to contain medicine bottles or vials.
In 'carrying outmy invention bracket-supports D are fixed to the ends of the inner surface of the front wall B, so that when the front wall is closed up against the box the said bracket-supports will move into the said box. The outer ends of the bracket-supports D.' are provided with ybearings d, in which turn the pivots or trunnions e' of the leaf E, said pivots or trunnions being arranged at the inner edge of the leaf E, so that when the leaf is turned up into the inclined or u-pwardly-slanting position shown in Fig. 1 the free edge thereof will rest upon a row of bottles or vials e, arranged on the back of the box A and supported by means of clips or other suitable holding devices b, or the said leaves can rest on any other suitable supportas, for instance, against the back of the box itself. F is a second leaf which is arranged in between the leaf E and the front wall B, said leaf being provided at its inner edge with arms f, extending at right angles thereto,
said arms being provided at their outer ends with perforations, through which the pivots or trunnions e of the leaf E pass. Each of the said leaves is provided with clips or other suitable fastening devices c2 e3, respectively, which are adapted to support upon said leaves rows of .vials or other objects f which are to be displayed. y
The leaves, brackets, and the front wall are so combined and adapted to each other and "to the box A as that when the case is closed, as shown in Fig. 2, the rows of bottles or vials will stand in vertical parallel position, as is customary in medicine or similar cases. When the front wall B, however, is swung out into open position, the leaves E and F will move out with it, thus disclosing ot view the row of vials or'samples e, if there besuch a row, arranged against the back of the box. `Should it be desired to display the IOO row of vials arranged upon the leaf E the same is moved up and back into upwardly and rearwardly inclined position, as shown in Figs. l and 3, in which position the free edge of said leaf rests against the rear row of the vials or samples e. In this position the labels on the vials or samples can be easily read olf without causing any annoyalice or inconvenience. In the same manner the leaf F can be swung up and back into inclined position, so that it will rest upon the inner leaf E, in which position the labels on the vials or samples thereon can be easily read olf. If desired, a pocket g can be provided on the inner side of the front wall B in which to contain powder-papers, prescription-blanks, (be. Whenever the case is closed up the leaves all fold up naturally and easily into the case.
Ilaving thus described my invention, I
claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patentl. The combination of a box, having a hinged front wall, bracket-supports attached to the inside of said front wall, and a bottlecarrying leaf pivoted only to the ends of and freely swinging on said supports and adapted to be folded parallel with the said front wall or supported in rearward forwardly-inclined position, substantially as set forth.
2. The combination of a box, having a hinged front wall, bracket-supports attached to the inside of said front wall, a freely-swin ging leaf pivoted only to said supports, and a second freely-swinging leaf provided with arms pivoted to said supports, said leaves being adapted to support bottles or the like and to swing parallel with the front wall in its i11- ward or outward position, and said second leaf being adapted to be folded over onto the other leaf, so that each leaf may be exposed separately, substantially as set forth.
3. The combination of a box having a hinged front Wall, a row of bottles supported on the rear wall, bracketesupports attached to the inside of said front wall, and a leaf pivoted to the said supports, said leaf being adapted to carry a row of bottles and to be supported by its free edge on said first row of bottles, substantially as set forth.
4. The combination of suitable support-s, a leaf pivoted at its opposite ends to said supports only, and a second leaf provided with arms pivoted at their outer ends only to the supports, said leaves being adapted to be separately moved into and be supported in rearwardly and upwardly inclined position, substantially as set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my invention I have signed my name in presence of two subscribing witnesses.
MARGARET IIOFF.
