Description
uiten taies @anni @Hire G. F. KOLB', or PHILADELPHIA, P ENNSYLVANI A.
i Letters Patent No. 72,206, dated December 17, v1867.
JEWEL-CASE.
TO ALL WHOM IT MAY CONCERN:
Be it known that I, G. F. KOLB, of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, have invented an improved Jewel-Case; and I de'hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and cxactvdescription of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, and to the letters of reference marked thereon.
My improved jewel-case consists of the upper-"and lower` external portions, the wholebeing constructed and operating substantially as described hereafter, so that the case may be more compact and less costly than those commonly used, while itialfords every facility for the desired display of the contents.
In order to enable others skilled in the art to make my invention, I will now proceed to describethe manner of constructing the same. On reference to the accompanying drawing, which forms a part of this speciication- Figure 1 is a transversesection of my improved jewel-case with the lid closed.
Figure 2, the same with the lid turned around and underneath.
` Similar letters refer to similar-parts throughout the several views.
A represents the lower portion of the case, and A the upper portion or lid, the latter' being hinged to the former by a double hinge, B, atb I). The case may be ot'- any form suitable for the article ot' jewelry which it has to contain, and may be made of wood, covered with morocco, or other material, and lined with velvet and satin, as usual, the two portions being secured in front bythe ordinary spring-clasp, or other suitable fastening. The lower portion is filled wit-h a bed, c, ofv wood, fitted and covered to hold the jewelry, as usual.
In ordinary jewelry-cases, the velvet-covered bed to which the article is confined is more inclined from the rear downwards, so that the jewel may be in the best position for proper display, as thelid must enclose the inclined bed as well as the jewel thereon. The case must of necessity be somewhat bulky and cumbrous, -as'well' as expensive, owing to the quantity of-fancy and costly material required for covering and lining, and in the jewellers show-case or window, where they are displayed, the lids obstruct the view of others around,
and also take up room In my improved case the jewels are displayed on amore inclined plane, and elevated above the lid, which y then is underneath and nearly out of sight, and therefore does not obstruct the view of other sets of jewelry or other articles in the rear or around, and saving room where they are displayed.
I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent- The within-described jewel-case, composed of the lower portion A and the upper portion A', hinged together hy a double hinge, the whole being constructed and operating substantially as and for the purpose herein set forth.
. In testimony whereof, I have signed my name to this specication in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
