GEORGE H. WEEKS, OF STONEHAM, MASSACHUSETTS.
HORSE-BOOT.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 719,922, dated February 3, 1903.
Application filed April 9, 1902. Serial No. 102,040. (No model.)
To aZZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GEORGE H. WEEKS, a citizen of the United States, residing at Stoneham, in the county of Middlesex and State of Massachusetts, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Horse -Boot-s; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to horse-boots; and it consists in the novel construction and combination of the parts hereinafter fully described and claimed.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a plan View of the horse-boot. Fig. 2 is a cross-section taken on the line as a: in Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a side View of a portion of the band.
A is a band of leather or other similar material, and B is a pad of soft material, such as felt, secured to the inside of the said band.
The band A is provided with a series of rectangular holes bi C is a fastening-strap provided at one end with a buckle c or other approved fastening device for engaging with the other end of the strap. The strap 0 is passed between the band A and its pad and is bent double at various points of its length, forming projecting loops E. The strap 0 is narrower than the band A and the pad B, and the band and pad are secured together by stitches at their edges, so that a narrow chamber for the strap is formed along the middle of the band opposite the holes b. These projections or loops E are passed outwardly through the holes I), and e are reinforcing-pieces inserted in the loops to stiffen them. F represents rivets which are passed through the loops and stifiening-pieces.
The boot is attached to the foot of the animal by means of the strap 0 and operates to protect the foot and to cure a horse which interferes.
What I claim is In a horse-boot, the combination, with a band provided with a series of holes, of a strap provided with a series of integrally-formed loops which are thrust through the said holes, reinforcing-strips secured in the said loops, at buckle securing the end portions of the said strap together, and a pad of soft material having its edges secured to the edges of the said band and inclosing the portions of the said strap which intervene between the said loops, substantially as set forth.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
