SHOE-TONGUE.

SPECIFICATION formingpart of Letters Patent No. 748,197, dated December 29, 1903.

Application filed July 8, 1903. Serial No. 164,721. (No model.)

To all whom, it may concern: 7

Be it known that I, JONATHAN ALBER LYONS, a citizen of the United States, residing at Nuevitas, Cuba, have invented certain new 5 and useful Improvements in Shoe-Tongues;

and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the 10 same.

A is a portion of a shoe-tongue.

B is a plate of thin sheetmetal having a loop I) struck up and partially punched out from its middle part. The side portions of the plate have flattened folds c, which permit the formation of the said loop. The corners of the plate have sharp triangular tangs d, which are inserted through the leather tongue and which secure the said plate to it.

A portion of the shoe tie or lace is passed through the loop 1), so that the tongue is held in its central position, where it is most comfortable to the wearer.

What I claim is- The combination, with a shoe-tongue, of a plate having a loop struck up from its middle portion and having flattened folds in its side portions, and means for securing the said plate to the said tongue.
