TO ALL WHOM IT MAY CONCERN:
Be it known that I, CHARLES BOWLEN, of the city and county of Milwaukee, and State of Wisconsin, have v invented a new and useful Improvement in Gun-Looks; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full,
reference being had to the aceompanying drawing, forming part of this specification, in which- Figure 1 is a. view of the outside of the lock, and a portion of the stock.
Figure 2, a view of the interior of the lock.
Figure 3, the tumbler-dog, and
Figure 4 the tumbler.
Similar letters of reference in each of the figures indicate corresponding parts.
The object of my invention is to provide a device that will prevent the too frequent casualties caused by guns being accidentally discharged by the hammer being caught and drawn back, and when released, falling upon the cap and exploding it; and this I do by putting'a pin in the bottom of the tumbler, which shall catch in a slot in the point of the tumbler-dog. This prevents the hammer from being drawn back without pulling lightly on the trigger.
A is the gun-stock; B the lock; 0 the nipple; D, trigger; E, trigger-guard; F, tumbler; G, pin in the bottom of the tumbler; H, dog; I, slot in the (log.
Operation: When the hammer is down on the nipple, the slot in the dog H is over the pin G, and the hammer cannot be drawn back till a pressure on the trigger lifts the slot lover the pin, when the hammer can be drawn back to cock or half cock, as may be desired. This pin G may be a projection of solid metal on the tumbler, forming a pin, or may be a pin inserted in the tumbler, as most convenient in the manufacture.
What I claim as my invention,.and desire to seeureby Letters Patent, is- Tumbler F, with its pin G, in combination with dog H, with its slot I, substantially as an described.
