GEORGE E. ADAMS, OF NEW BRITAIN, CONNECTICUT.
SUSPENDERS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent N 0. 715,931, dated December 16, 1902.
Application filed May 29, 1902. Serial No. 109,526. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, GEORGE E. ADAMS, of New Britain, in the county of Hartford, State of Connecticut, have invented certain new and usefullmprovements in Suspenders; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of the same, and to the letters of reference marked thereon.
This invention relates to improvements in suspenders, the object being to provide an improved means for connecting the shoulderstraps and back web whereby the suspender will adjust itself to the movements of the body of the wearer.
To this end the invention consists in certain novel details of construction and combinations and arrangements of parts, all as will be now described, and the particular features of novelty pointed out in the claims.
Referring to the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective view of a pair of suspenders embodying the present invention. Fig. 2 is a section on the line as at, Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a detail of the parts of the back connection before being assembled.
Similar letters of reference in the several figures indicate the same parts.
The letter A indicates a loop of wire bent as shown-that is, having a substantially straight upper portion or bar and a curved portion, as at B. Around the upper bar of the Wire loop A the connection C is bent so as to inclose the central portion of the top bar, as shown in Fig. 2. At each end of the blank from which the connection C is formed are ears 0, which are bent up parallel with the front portion of the connection C, and between these ears and the connection are em braced the loops or connections D, to which the rear ends of the shoulder-straps are connected. The loops and ears are connected by pivots (1, located in substantial alinement, and the loops swing in the same plane, adapt ing themselves to the movements of the wearer.
The lower curved portion of the wire loop A receives a slide or connection F for the back strap of the suspenders, said strap at its lower end carrying the rear suspender-end.
The back strap is preferably employed inpenders embodying this connection the level 4 of the wearers shoulders may be changed and other movements of the body made without varying to any material extent the strain on the shoulders and without causing the nether garments to ride up. The suspenders are thus well adapted for use where bodily exercise is indulged in or manual labor is performed, the wearer under such circumstances finding that his movements are not impeded nor is there undue wear either on his garments or on the fabric of the suspenders, all i wear on the latter taking place between the metal portions of the connection.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-- 1. A connection for suspenders, consisting of a wire loop having a straight upper bar and a curved lower portion, a slide or connection for the back strap sliding on said curved portion, and the connection encircling the upper bar of the wire loop, having ears or lugs at opposite ends, and loops or connections for the shoulder-straps pivotally mounted on said earsor lugs to swing in the same plane, substantially as described.
' 2. In suspenders, the shoulder-straps and rear suspender-end with a metallic connection interposed between said straps and end embodying a loop having a straight upper portion and curved lower portion, a slide on the curved portion for the suspender-end, and loops to which the rear ends of the shoulderstraps are connected mounted on pivots at the ends of the straight portion of the firstnamed loop between the shoulder-straps and end to swing in the same plane; substantially as described.
