- T0 ALL WHOM IT MAY CONCERN:
Be it known that I, JAMES J. CRISPIN, of Providence, in thecounty of Providence, and State of Rhode Island, have invented an Improvement in Hand-Spectacle Frames; and do hereby declare that the following i's a. full and exact description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, making a p'art of this speci- 'catiom The nature of my invention consists in an improved method of attaching the bow or bend of the spring to the'eye-glass frames, and also in the use of a. spiral spring as a portion of such connection.
.To enable those skilled in the art to make and use my invention, I will proceed to describe its construction and operation. Figures 1 and 2 show the means adopted for-securing the bow ofthe spring A to the eye-glass frames B B. The clasp C is made ofa piece of metal havingits edges forced down over the edges of the spring, so as to hold it rmly. In connecting this clasp to the frames B B', I use either a solid Aor' rigid connection, shown at D, or
- a spiralspring, shown at E.
The object of this improvement is to furnish a means of securing a. connection tothe spring at the point indicated, without weakening such spring by a rivet-holeor screw, as heretofore used in the manufacture of such frames. The use of the spiral spring E allows the spring A a greater extent of motion.
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is The combination of a clasp', C, spring A, and frame B, substantially as described.' I also claim the combination of the spring A, spiral spring E, and frame B, substantially as described.
JAMES J. CRISPIN.
