Description

i @uiten tutatent @ffice F. HULL, or BIRMINGH A M, ooNNEo'rr'oiuT. Lef-ters Patent No. 71,487, dated November 26, 1867.
IMPROVEMENT IN HOOP-SKIRTS. i
TO ALL WHOM II MAY CON CERN :l I
Beit known that I, F. HULL, ofirmingham, in the county of New Haven, und State of Connecticut,
i have. invented a. new Improvement in Hoop-Skirts; and I do hereby declare the following, when taken inconnection with the accompanying drawings, und 'the letters of reference nnarked thereon, to be a full, clear, and
exact description of the same, and which said drawings constitute part of this specification, and represent, inhp Figure I, a. front view of a portion of the tape with two hoops attached.
Figure 2, a longitudinal section on the line xx; and in Figure 3, a vertical section on line yy. v,
This invention relates to an improvementy in the manner of securing the springs to' the vertical tapes; and to enable'others to construct my imement, I will proceed to describe the same as illustrated in the accompanying draxvings. i v Y i The several hoops are formed by passing one or more springs through a tape, which is formed with a longitudinal pocket to receive the spring or springs, represented in the drawings as three springs, a aa, through a, tape, A.. In gs. 2 and 3 the springs are represented in black, the longitudinal tape in red, and the 'vertical tape B in yellow.` Theseveral springs may rst be braided in the usual manner or not. The springs are inserted' Vinto their respective pocketsin the tape A atthe edge of thetape, one or more are 'passed out from the pocket l Yin the tape A, and run through the pocket in the vertical B, then again into the pocket in the tape A at the opposite edge of the tape'B, as seen in figs. 2 and Spend so around at euch vertical tape. If a single spriugl be used, the spring is passed out from the pocket in the tape A, in the same manner as described for thethree or more springs.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is- The attachment of hoops to ver-tical tapes by means of the springinserted so as to passthrough the pocket p* in the vertical Atzipe while the covering of` the wire is upon the outside of the poel/:et in the vertice-l tape, sub stantially as herein set forthl r. HULL.
