Description

@with gieten @anni ffies.
GEORGE W. HUBBELL, OF BIRMINGHAM, CONNECTICUT, ASSIGNOR TO HIM- SELF, W. E. HOUSTON, AND J. R. LATTIN, OF SAME PLACE.
Letters .Patent No. 63,253, dated March 26, 1867,
IMPROVEMENT IN SKIRT WIRE.
TO ALL WHOM IT MAY CONCERN:
Be it known that I, GEORGE W. HUBBELL, of Birmingham, in the county of New Haven, and State of Connecticut, have invented a new Improvement in Hoop-Skirt Wire; and I do hereby declare the following, when taken in connection with the accompanying drawings and the letters of reference marked thereon, to be a full, clear, and exact description of the same, and lwhich said drawings constitute part of this specification, and represent, in
Figures 1 and 2, transverse sections of a single spring, enlarged, illustrating my invention.
This invention is designed for an improvement in covering the wire` by which a fabricated edge or'cord is formed by the covering itself upon the wire, so that the tapes of the skirt may be stitched thereto for the purpose of securing,r the hoops to the tapes; and consists in braiding the wire so that the sarne material which covers the wire shall be interwoven so as to form a fabricated edge oricord upon the wire.
To enable others to construct and use my improvement, I will proceed te describe the same as illustrated in the accompanying drawings.
i In the drawing the wire is denoted in black and the covering `in red. The wire is introduced into what is called a igure 8 machine through one of the circles7 so as to lay the coveringr upon the wire while the other circle braids a cord, a, which lies upon the wire upon the edge, as seen in iig. l, or u pon the side, as seen in iig. 2, 0r in any other desired point upon the Wire. Thus is formed a cord or edge from the same material as the covering itself, and when so braided is secured to the tapes by stitches passing,r through thebraided edge of the wire.
Having therefore thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new and useful, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
A cord or edge formed upon the wire from the same material with which the wire is covered, substantially as herein set forth.
GEO. W. HUBBELL.
