IMPROVED TRUNK-HINGE.

'IO ALL WHOM IT MAY CONCERN:

Be it known that I, LUcIUs WHEATON, of Auburn, in the countyof Cayuga, and State ot' New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Trunk-Hinges; and I do hereby declare that the 'following is a, full', clear, and exact descriptionv thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of' this specification, in whichi Figure 1 is a. rear elevation. A v I Figure 2, a side elevation, with the top portionl oi' the hinge thrown back; and e Figure 3, a. perspective. I v 1 'lhe nature of my invention consists in so constructing a hinge that its sides will lap and bind the corners of a trunk, 'and thus protect the same, substantially as hereinafter described.

. A B represent the two parts of the hinge, their sides forming right angles, :is-indicated in iig. 3; thus,-

when placed or secured to the trunk, additional strength will'be given to the corners formed by the rear side and the ends, and also, in a. great measure, protect the same from injury. e represents a vertical slot in the upper part of the hinge, as seen in fig. 1. The upper portion of the lower part B is extended on its end sides, as shown in fig. 2. This extension fits into slot e, and a'ords still further strength and protection to the trunk, while it adds increased strength to the hinge. g is a. projection, on the upper part A, which acts as a stop to the lid of the trunk.l z'z'are tack-holes.

What I claim, and desireAtc secure by Letters Patent, is-

The upper partA, provided with slot e, in combination vwith lower part B, when both are constructed and hinged, substantially in the manner specified. v
