PEN EXTRAGTUR.
(Application filed Jan. 15, 1902.)

UNITED STATES V'PATENT OFFICE.
HARRY H. LEWIS, OF VERONA, PENNSYLVANIA.
PEN- EXT RACTO R.
SLPEGIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 711,775, dated October 21, 1902. Application filed J'annary 15,1902. Serial No. 89,905. (No model.)
To all whom, it may concern.-
Be it known thatI, HARRY H. LEWIS, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Verona, in the county of Allegheny and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Pen-Extractors, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawings.
This invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in pen-extractors, and relates more particularly to. that class that are carried by the penholder.
The present invention has for its object to provide a penholder with a simple attachment whereby a pen-point may be easily removed when desired.
A still further object of the present invention is to provide an attachment of the abovedescribed character that will be extremely simple in construction, strong, durable, and comparatively inexpensive to manufacture.
With the above and other objects in view the invention consists in the novel combination and arrangement of parts, to be hereinafter more fully described, and specifically pointed out in the claims.
In describing the invention in detail reference is had to the accompaying drawings, forming a part of this specification, and wherein like numerals of reference indicate like parts throughout the several views, in which Figure l is a perspective view showing the under face of the penholder. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal sectional view showing an inverted position of the penholder. Fig. 3 is an underneath plan View of the penholder with the sleeve removed therefrom. Fig. 4 is an end view of the same.
In the drawings the reference-numeral 1 indicates the penholder, said penholder carrying at its forward end an extractor 2, which is semicircular in form and carries integral therewith lugs 3, which serve to securely fasten the extractor to the penholder. A pin 4 is secured to-the under face of'the penholder, which pin rides in the slot 5, formed in the sleeve6, carrying the spring 7, between which is interposed the pen-point.
In the slot 5, near its rearward end, is formed a notch 8, in which the pin 4, carrying the head, is seated, the latter serving to retain the sleeve rigid when the pen is in use.
\Vhen it is desired to extract the pen from the holder, the sleeve is turned, allowing the same to ride in the slot 5, and by operating the sleeve toward the body portion of the penholder the extractor may be moved forwardly and disengage the pen-point at its rear and remove the same from the holder. The device is then again'placed in its formerposition and a new point inserted.
The many advantages obtained by the use of my improved pen-extractor will be readily apparent from the foregoing description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings. I
It will be noted that various changes may be made in the details of construction without departing from the general spirit of my invention.
Having fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. A pen-extractor comprising a substantially semicircularv portion carrying integral lugs rigidly secured to the penholder, and a sleeve slidingly mounted upon the penholder and carrying a spring,-the pen engaging between the sleeve and spring and having its rear end contacting with the semicircular portion of the extractor, substantially as described.
2. A pen-extractor comprising a substantially semicircular portion rigidly secured to the penholder and projecting beyond the end thereof, a slotted sleeve slidingly mounted on the penholder and carrying a spring, a pin carried by the penholder operating in said slot of the sleeve, the pen engaging the forward end of the extractor and secured between the sleeve and the spring carried thereby, substantially asdescribed.
In testimony whereof I affix "my signature in the presence of twowitnesses.
HARRY H. LEWIS.
