Be it known that 1, MAURICE E. Fannie,

a citizen of the. United States, residing at Shouns, in the county of JohnsonA and State of Tennessee,- have invented new and useful improvements in Penholders, of which the following is a specification.

An object of the invention is to provide a device for removably holdinga pen.

The invention embodies among other features a. pen holder arranged to removably receive a pen and provided with means for retaining the pen in engagement with the holder, the pen being removable from the holder for the purpose of inserting a new pen therein.

In the further disclosure of the invention, reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings ronstituting a` part of this specification. in which similar characters of reference denote corresponding parts in all the views, and in which Figure 1 is a side elevation. Referring more particularly to the views, lf provide a holder body 10 having the forward end thereof split. longitudinally to form hilurcated sections 111, 12. the section 1l terminating in the head 13 and the section 12 terminating in the seat 14, the vshank ot' the pen being received on the seat 14 and adapted to be engaged by the head 13.

The groove 15 is of agreater depth at the rear end thereof so that the 11, 12 incline outwardly toward the front end of the sections. Whe-n the sleeve is operated and moved toward the front end ofthe pen holder, the lug 21 operating in the reduced tapered portion 15 will cause` the enlarged front ends of the sect-ions to move toward each other, thus gripping the pen therebetween and when the sleeve is moved rearwardly the sections 11, 12 will move apart owing to the elasticity of the material from which they are made and the elasticity furnished by a. flexible cushion 19, preferably made ot rubber and inserted between the sections 11, l2 adjacent the rear ends thereof, it being understood that the sliding movement of the sleeve 18 is limited by the lug 21 abutting against the anges portions in clamping engagement with the y said pen. v y l ln testimony whereof I afiix my signature in presence. of two witnesses.
