ROBERT EDWIN NAFE, 01E PRESTON, ONTARIO, CANADA.
COMBINATION PEN AND PENCIL HOLDER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed November 15, 1917. Serial-No. 202,195.
To all whom it may concern: 7
Be it known that I, ROBERT EDWIN NAFE, of the town of Preston, in the county of Waterloo, in the Province of Ontario, Canada, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Combination Pen and Pencil Holders, of which the following is the specification. I
My invention relates to improvements in combination pen and pencil holders and the obj ect of the invention is to devise a holder adapted for use either to hold the nib of a pen or a pencil portion and it consists essentially of the following arrangement and construction of parts as hereinafter more particularly explained.
Figure 1, is a perspective view of my holder showing it as used when holding a pen nib.
Fig. 2, is a similar view to Fig. 1, showing the nib withdrawn, its position being in dicated by dotted lines.
Fig. 3, is a similar view to Fig. 1, showing the pen removed and a pencil end placed within the holder.
Fig. 4, is an enlarged sectional view through the holder showing the pencil in position.
In the drawings like letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in the various figures.
1 indicates the body of my combination pen and pencil holder. 2 indicates a sleeve which is held upon the end of the body 1 and is split longitudinally at 3 and 4: to form a tongue 5. The portions of the sleeve to each side of the tongue 5 are sprung inwardly slightly and are provided with longitudinal groove portions 6 and 7 When it is desired to use my holder as a pen holder all that it is necessary to do is to insert the end of a nib 8 beneath the tongue 5 so that the edges of the nib slidably pass through the grooves 6 and 7 into the position indicated in Figs. 1 and 2. By this operation the tongue 5 is sprung upwardly slightly so as to exert a grip upon the nib.
When the holder is used as a pencil holder the nib is removed and a pencil portion 9 is forced into the sleeve by springing the portions adjacent to the tongue 5 slightly outward in circumferential alinenient with the tongue, the groove portions 6 and 7 forming a longitudinal projecting sharp rib which engages with the WOOCl of the pencil l1olding it firmly in place as indicated in Figs. 3 and 4.
From this description it will be seen that I have devised a very simple form of pen and pencil holder which is simple in construction, easily convertible and readily Patented A110. 2?, 1918.
adaptable for use particularly in school work.
What I claim as my invention is:
In a combination pen and pencil holder, the combination with the holder body, of a sleeve secured to the body adapted to receive a pencil end and having longitudinal splits forming a longitudinal tongue and having longitudinal grooves formed at the opposite side of each split forming inwardly extending longitudinal ribs adapted to grip a pen oil to prevent its turning movement when it is inserted in the sleeve and between the groove of which and the tongue is adapted to be inserted a pen nib.
ROBERT EDWIN NAFE.
