Description

(N0 Model.)
C. W. BOMAN.
PENHLDER.
Patented Sept. 19, 1893.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
CLAES WM. BOMAN, OF BROOKLYN, ASSIGNOR TO THE EAGLE PENCIL COMPANY, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
PENHOLDER.
LLDBCIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 505,384, dated September 19, 1893.
Application filed June Z3, 1893.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CLAES WM. BOMAN, of Brooklyn, in the State ot' New York, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Penholders, of which the following is a specification.
My invention is directed to obtaining a cheap, durable and efficient ejecting pen holder, that is to saya pen holder so made as to provide for the release or ejection of the pen inserted in it. And it consists in the particular form of pen holder for this purpose hereinafter described and illustrated in the accompanying drawings.
In the drawings-Figure 1 is a view of the three parts of the pen holder detached from one another. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal central section of the complete device.
A is the handle. It has on its front end a tenon a.. And it is formed with a slit Z) which stops short of the tenen, thus leaving the front end of the handle solid.
B is a tubular sheet metal tip, having a slitted outer end c to form a spring yielding bed, and a solid inner end d forminga socket into which the tenen a of the handle is inserted.
C is a sleeve (usually of hard rubber). This sleeve fits upon socket d andthe handle back of the socket, and can slide back and forth thereon. The pen io be held is inserted b in the handle.
When the lat- Serial No. 4781623- (No model.)
ter is shoved forward it covers the split portion of tip B, thus forming with the latter a holder for the pen which is to be inserted between them. To eject the pen, the sleeve is pulled back, thus uncovering the split p0rtion c of the tip. The penis prevented from being accidentallydrawn backwith the sleeve, by reason of the shoulder f between the parts c, d of the tip, against which the heel of the pen will bring up.
Inasmuch as the slit b in the handle, does notextend out tothe front end, but stops short of the tenon d, thus leaving a solid end to the handle, the latter is thereby strengthened, and less liable to crack and break. This is further guarded against by the socket portion of the tip B which forms a band encircling and tightly holding the tenon.
The parts are simple, cheap, easily made and easily fitted together; while the device as a whole is most ettcient and durable.
What I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
A pen-holder, consisting ot the handle A, having the slit b and the solid tenen a, the tubular sheet metal tip B, with its split portion c, socket portion d, and intermediate shoulder f, and the sleeve C with its pin e* these parts being constructed and fitted together, as hereinbefore shown and described.
In testimony whereof I affix my signaturein presence of two witnesses.
