'aimant UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ME-LVI-N D. MCOMBER, OF OVID, NEW YORK.
PEN-EJECTOR.
To all whom 'it may concern:
Be it known that I, MELvIN D. MCOMBER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Ovid, in the county of Seneca and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Pen-Ejectors; and I dofhereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specication.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in pen ejectors and the object in view is to produce a simple and efficient device of this nature which may be readily applied to various forms of pen holders, and comprises various details of construction, combinations and arrangements of parts which will be hereinafter fully described and then specifically defined in the appended claims.
I illustrate my invention in the accomp anying drawings, in which:-
Figure 1 is a perspective view showing the device as applied to a penholder. Fig. 2 is a detail perspective view of the ejector removed from the penholder. Fig. 3 is a cross sectional view through the same, and Fig. 4 is a detail view of a slight modification of the invention. n
Reference now being had to the details of the drawings by letter, A designates a penholder of the usual construction having the band or inner ferrule B over which. telescopes the outer shell C having an opening C in the circumference thereof. My improved ejector consists of the plate D having wings D at one end which are adapted to artially surround the inner band or ferru e B against which they slide and serve means for guiding the plate D in its longitudinal movements. The forward end of the plate D is adapted to bear against the butt end of a pen and afford means for ejecting the same when said plate is pushed forward. Wings E roject from the opposite edges of the plate which latter is concaved and, after having been passed through the opening C in the shell or ferrule C, are bent down over the convexed surface of the latter, as shown clearly in Fig. 1 of the drawings. Rising from the plate D is a lug F which projects Specification of Letters Patent;

through the opening C in the shell C and affords means whereby said plate may be moved backward and. forward.
In Fig. 4 of the drawings, I have shown a slight modification of the invention, in which the lug F is dispensed with and the edges of the wings E are bent at an angle thereto, forming the lugs E which serve as means for imparting a longitudinal movement to the plate E in ejecting a pen or returning the plate to its normal position.
From the foregoing, it will be noted that, by the provision of a device as shown and described, a simple and efficient means is afforded which may be applied to an ordinary penholder and so arranged that the pen may be readily ejected, the plate being guided in its longitudinal movements in the manner set forth, and therefore will work perfectly whether the pen holder has an inner ferrule or not.
What I claim to be new is 1. A pen ejector comprising, in combination with a pen holder, a Vferrule tted thereto and provided with an opening, a conveXed plate closing said opening and having its ends movably mounted intermediate said ferrule and the pen-holder, one end of which plate is adapted to bear against the end of a pen to cause the same to be ejected, convexed wings projecting from op osito edges of said plate and overlapping t e opposite edges of the opening in the ferrule, and a lug projecting from the plate through said opening, as set forth.
2. A pen ejector comprising, in combination with a pen holder, a ferrule fitted thereto and provided with an opening, a convexed plate adapted to close said opening and having its ends movably mounted intermediate the ferrule and the pen holder, said plate having oppositely disposed conveXed wings which overhang the marginal edges of the opening, the ends of said wings adapted to contact with the ends of the opening to limit the longitudinal movements of said plate, and convened wings at the outer end 0f said plate and designed to engage the inner end of a pen to be ejected, as set forth.
In testimony whereof I hereunto afliX my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
MELVIN D. MOOMBER.
