STEPHEN SPARROV AND GEORGE FREMD, OF EMINENCE, KENTUCKY. I
TOY.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 711,014, dated October 14, 1902.
Application filed August 21,1902. Serial No. 120,552. (No model.)
17'0 @ZZ wir/0m, t 77mg concern:
Be it known that We, STEPHEN SPAREOW and GEORGE FREMD, citizens of the United States, residing at Eminence, in the county of Henry and State of Kentucky, have invented certain new and useful Improvements y in Toys; and We do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as Will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
The invention relates to toys.
The object of the invention is to provide a toy Which shall be simple of construction, durable in use, comparatively inexpensive of production, and which Will prove amusing and entertaining to both young and old.
Vth this and other objects in view the invention consists of certain novel features of construction, combination, and arrangement of parts, which will be hereinafter more fully described, and particularly pointed outin the appended claims.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure lis a perspective view of our improved toy, and Fig. 2 is a longitudinal vertical sectional View.
Referring to the drawings, l denotes the longitudinal body portion, Which is preferably in the form of a box or casing provided at its opposite ends with rollers or pulleys 2, around which is rove a belt 8, which may be in the nature of a band or cord and Which is provided with a Weight 4. This Weight is preferably made of ductile material With split ends, whereby the ends of the belt are connected.
One side of the casing is provided with a longitudinal slot 5, through which projects a pin 6, which is clamped to the belt and upon which is pivotally supported a iigure Which may be of any suitable shape to represent any desired object. The gure is Weighted at its lower end, so as to counterbalance it and maintain its upper end in an upright position irrespective of the reversal of the casing end for end.
1f desired, one side of the casing may be provided With a vertical row of corrugations to be engaged by the iigure in its travel upward and cause the figure to vibrate.
Assuming the parts to be in the position shown in Fig. l, by inverting the casing the movable igure is at the lower end of the casing instead of at the upper end, and in ,derstood Without requiring an extended eX- planation.
Various changes in the form, proportion, and details of construction may be made Within the scope of the invention Without departing from the spirit or sacrificing any of the advantages thereof.
Having thus described our invention, What We claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
l. The combination with the body portion, of a Weighted belt supported at the opposite ends of the body portion, and an eccentrical Weighted figure supported by the said belt, substantially as set forth.
2. The combination with a casing provided With a longitudinal slot, of rollers journaled at its opposite ends, a belt rove about said rollers, a pin connected to said belt and eX- tending through thev slot, an eccentrical Weighted igure pivoted to said pin, and a Weight connected to said belt, substantially as set forth.
3. The combination with a casing provided with a longitudinal slot, of rollers journaled at its opposite ends, a belt rove about said rollers, a pin connected to said belt and eX- tending through the slot, an eccentrical Weighted gure pivoted to said pin, and a Weight connected to said belt, said casing being provided upon one side with corrugations against which the Weighted figure is adapted to contact and thereby be caused to vibrate in the upward movement of said ligure.
In testimony whereof We have hereunto set our han ds in presence of two subscribing witnesses.
