Description
W. J. KERR.
MAGNET TOY.
APPLICATION FILED JULY 9. 190a.
Winn/soon is a plan View of the keeper.
. cause WTLLIAM J. KERR, OF SMETHPORT, PENNSYLVANIA.
MAGNET TOY.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WILLIAM J. KERR, a citizen of the United States, residing at Smethport, in the county of McKean and. State of Pennsylvania, have invented oertain new and useful Improvements in Magnet Toys, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawing.
This invention relates to toys and has for its object to provide a magnetic toy simple in construction, durable, and capable of furnishing amusement.
In the drawings-Figure 1 is a View in elevation of the toy as a whole. Fig. 2 is a plan view of the stand and magnet. Fig. 3 Fig. 4 shows the magnet and keeper in the position with respect to each other which they would occupy when not in use.
1 indicates a base of metal, wood, or other suitable material in which are mounted the posts 2-2. Between these posts is suspended the connecting bar 3. The hook 4 comprising the arms 5-5 and the hook portion 6, is freely suspended from the connecting bar 3, and in the hook is placed a horse-shoe or other form of magnet 7 The keeper 8 consists of the base 9 preferably made in the shape of a hollow spherical segment and the figure 10, designed to represent a man, animal, or anything else, as desired. Both parts of the keeper are preferably made of iron, and it is so designed and proportioned that the upper part of the figure 10 fits snugly within the opening of the magnet, as shown in Fig. 4. When in that position the lines of magnetic fiux find a ready path from one part of the horseshoe-magnet to the other throughthe various (parts of the figure which is thereby to retain its magnetism. The operation of my device is simple.
Whenthe magnet 7 is suspended in .the hook Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed July 9, 1908. Serial No. 442,732.
Patented May 4, 1909.
4 and caused to swing backward and forward, the keeper 8, if placed upon the base 1 beneath the magnet, will be given oscillatory movements corresponding to those of the magnet. The keeper can also be magnetically suspended from the magnet 7 and the two swung together, giving rise to a variety of amusing movements.
I do not claim herein the combination of a magnet and a keeper so shaped asv to have projecting parts by one of which it can be pivotally and magnetically suspended kfrom the magnet, and by others of which it can be rotated, or the combination of a magnet with a keeper shaped to have a pointed rojection by which it can be magnetically an pivotally suspended from the magnet, such subjectmatter being claimed in my application, Serial No. "485,7 65.
What I claim is,
1. A magnetic toy comprising in combination a stationary frame, a magnet pivotally suspended from the frame and a magnetkeeper adapted to be positioned below said magnet, of akeeper consisting of a toy figure having limbs, the said keeper being adapted to lie within the aperture of said magnet with its limbs snugly fitting within the inner Walls of the aperture.
11 testimony whereof I affix my signature, in presence of two witnesses.
I WILLIAM J. KERR. Witnesses:
JOHN N. APPLE, CoRA M. ABBEY.
