Specification of Letters Patent.

To all whom it may concern:

7 Be it known that I, LINCOLN EDWARD HARRISS, a citizen of the United States, residing at Washington, in the District of Columbia, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Game or Puzzle Apparatus, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.

My invention relates to game or puzzle apparatus of that character in which a number of objects representing small bears with the forelimbs so disposed as to form a ring or eye are secured by means of elastic threads or spiral springs in such a way that they may be made to jump up and down within a limited range and by means of horizontally projecting devices provided with a terminal hook may be suspended therefrom.

The novel features of myinvention are fully described and claimed in the following In the accompanying drawing, Figure 1 is a perspective view of the apparatus. Fig. 2, is a portion of the same showing two of the bears hung on the hooks of the projecting devices.

The apparatus consists of a standard A two disks B and C, made of wood or other suitable material, a number of devices, 1, 2, and 3, projecting horizontally from the standard, three small bears, 4, 5, and 6, made of lead, iron or other sufliciently heaivy material, and the elastic threads, 7, 8, an 9.

The standard A, extends 'sufficiently below the disk B, to form a handle by which the apparatus is held by the player. Disk O is secured to the top of the standard, the purpose of said disk being to give a form to which the elastic threads or spiral springs may be attached.

The small bears, 4, 5 and 6, any number of which may be used are represented as if standing erect in mid-air, having the fore limbs and paws so disposed as to form a ringor eye, 10, which will fit over or engage with the hook on the end of the projecting devices, 1,.2 and 3, as shown in Fig. 2, and hereinafter described, said bears being suspended by means of the elastic threads, 7, 8,

and 9, to disk O, in vertical line with the projecting devices, 1, 2 and 3, respectively. The purpose of the elastic threads or spiral springs if used in lieu thereof is to permit the bears to turn and dance about and cause them to jump up and down.

The elastic threads are attached to a small eye or loop, 11 on the back of the bears neck and their length is adjusted so as to permit the bears when at rest to extend down to within a short distance of disk B, the purpose of this disk being to limit the downward movement of the bears and also to give a base upon which they dance about as if alive.

The projecting devices, 1, 2, and 3 are screwed into the standard A a short distance above the level of the bears forepaws, said devices having a terminal hook as shown in Fig. 1, and for the purpose as above set forth.

In playing the game, the object of the player is, so to manipulate the apparatus by quick short movements which cause the bears to jump and dance about that all of the bears may be suspended from the projecting devices at the same time. It is difficult to do this, since the elastic threads permit the bears to twist and turn in all directions and much patience and careful movements will be required to accomplish it.

Having fully described my invention, what I claim to be new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is The puzzle apparatus consisting of a plurality of toy suspended bears, with the fore limbs so disposed as to form a ring or eye, the standard carrying upper and lower disks, the elastic means for suspending the toy bears from the upper disk, hooks projecting from the standard, and the handle for giving vertical movement to the device to cause the bears to be suspended on the hooks.
