JOHN E. TUCKERrOF BOS-TON, MASSACHUSETTS.
I Letters Patent No. 70,919, dated November 12, 1867.
@Ligt rlpehnle refmh in in ttm ettm patent animating part 1n. the am.
TO ALL WHOM IT MAY CONCERN:
Be it known that I, JOHN EfTUCKER, of Boston, in the county of Suffolk, and iu the State of Massachusetts, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Water-Faucets; and do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon.
In the annexed drawings, making part of this specification, A represents a pipe, which is secured in the barrel. Near the centre of this pipe is casta short branch' pipe, A', into which is tted the fagcet pipe B, a shoulder being formed'uponit, so as4 to make, with the branch pipe A', a close joint, as seen. C represents a stem,.which passes through the faucet pipe B, having upon its lower end a cylindrical plug, D. Ulponvthe inner end of the plug D is formed a ange, a, which is made larger than the'bore of the pipe, and the upper surface of which fits snugly against the inner endhof` said pipe B. This plug is provided upon its periphery with a series of V-shaped grooves, e e, which diminish in size and depth as they approach the iiange a, but do not reach to said ange. E represents'a packing-ring `or collar, which surrounds the stem C, with its lower end entering the mouth of pipe B. G represents the delivery pipe, which connects with pipe B, as represented.
In Figure 1- the faucet is represented closed; but when it is desired to draw beer or other material from the barrel, the ha'nd is placed uponl the knob F, on the' outer end of stem C, and by shoving the stem in, the material passes around flange a, andenters the grooves e e upon the plug D, and from thence ows out through pipe G. Thelamount or iiow of' the material is regulated by the distance the stem is shoved in, as the further it is shoved the more space is opened by the Vshaped grooves e'e upon the plug D. -To shut oif the flow of the material, the stem is drawn outward.l until the'lange'a strikes against the end of pipe B.
Having thus fully describedmy invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
A faucet, composed of pipe B, with stem Cond plug D, with its grooves e, pipes Gr'fand A, and packingring E, all constructed, arranged, and operating in the manner as and for the purposes set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing, I have hereunto set my hand this 2d day of May, 1867.
JOHN E. TUCKER.
