Description

H W. BARTOL STEAM TRAP.
No. 65,047. Patented May 28, 1867.
iIKKK Invert/w I, nitnh gram igatmt @ffim.
HENRY W. BARTOL, OF PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA.
Leliers Patent No. 65,047, dated May 28, 1867,
IMPROVEMENT IN STEAM TRAPS.
TO ALL, WHOM IT MAY CONCERN:
,Be it known that I, HENRY W. BARTOL, of the city of Philadelphia, in the county of Philadelphia, in the State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Steam Trztpsf and I do hereby declare that the following is a true and exact description of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, a part of this specification, in which- Fignre l is a sectional-elevation of my steam trap.
Figure 2,0; section of the same on at as. Figure 3, a perspective view of the ring by means of which the metallic strip A is held in proper place inside the steam trap.
Figure 4 shows the metallic strip A in its full length.
The nature of my invention consists in a. steam trap, which closes or opens by means of the contraction or expansion of an inside metallic strip, bearing a valve-seat, which sets on end closes the mouth of dischargepipe.
To enable others skilled in the art to make and use my invention, I will proceed to describe its construction and operation.
.1 construct an ordinary cylinder, AB A B, which I set on the discharge pipe G, as shown in fig. 1 in M and N, said cylinder receiving the steam through D-D D D in the usual way. Cylinder ABA B is provided at both inside ends with rings or bosses K and K, which are cut bevel on the top, as shown in R and R, figs. 1 and 3, thus forming a bevel-notch, where the end of spring A is to rest and be held. I cut astrip of spring brass, or any suitable metal, of a sufficient length to have it bent, as shown in fig. 1, when in proper place in cylinder A B A B", and on the middle of said metallic strip A, I attach valve S.
Now, when the steam 'will enter the cylinder, the expansion of metallic strip A will bring down valve S which will then close opening E; and when the steam begins condensing, the metallic spring A will contrac and open the passage L, through which water of condensed steam, or water, will be admitted into discharge pipe 0.
Having thus described and explained my invention, what I claim as my inventiomend desire to secure bv Letters Patent of the UnitedStates, is
1. The arrangement of spring A in cylinder AB A B, so that when the steam enters the cylinder the expansion of metallic spring A will close opening E, as and for the purpose described and set forth.
2. The spring A, held and secured in proper place by meansof ring-bosses K and bevel-notch R,-as and for the purpose described and set forth.
HENRY W. BARTOL.
