Description

WARREN P. MILLER, OF SAN FRANCISCO, CALIFORNIA.
IMPROVEMENT IN BOTTLE-VALVES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 573,94 8, dated September 1I', 1866.
To all whom 'it may concern:
Be it known that I,.WARREN I. MILLER, ot' the city and county of San Francisco, and State of California, have i nvented a new Mode of Constructing Gravitation Valves for Bott-les; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full and exact description thereof, reference bein g had to the accompanying drawings and to the letters of reference marked thereon.
Figure No. l is a View of the valve-case inserted into the neck of a bottle; Fig: No. 2, a section ot' the case and valve and the device by which the valve is operated; Fig. No.3, section ot` the same, representing the valve as being open.
The nature of my invention consists in constructing,` a case ot' suitable size to be inserted into the neck of abottle, said case provided with a valve that will close when the bottle stands onits bot-tom, and open when the bottle is turned on its side.
To enable others skilled in the art to make and use my invention, I will proceed to describe its construction and operation.
I construct a round case, as shown atb, Fig. 1, with ange k and incline h. c, Figs 2 and 3, is a beam, (f the pivot,) to which the valve-stern l and the weight g are attached. c .is the valve; j, the hole in the top of the case into which the valve is titted; t', hole in the bottoni ofthe case, through which the liquid iows, but Which is closed by the Weight at the saine time that the valve closes the top.
rlhe object ot' closing the bottom ot'ut-he case by the Weight is, first, to prevent the liquid Afrom entering,` the case Whilethe valve is yet closed; second, the liquid is used to force the WeightdoWn the incline, and thus insure the opening of the valve.
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
VThe valve c, when made to operate in the case b by means of the Weight g, substantially as shown and described.
