Description
UNITED STATES PATENT OEEIoE;-
ISAAC B. SEELEY, OF PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA.
IM PROVED TRUSS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 70,629, dated November 5, 1867.
To all whom it may concern.:
Be it known that I, I. B. SEELEY, of Philadelphia, in the county ot' Philadelphia and State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and Improved Supporter; and l do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specication.
lhe abdominal supporter embraced. in th present invention consists of two pads, hinged, pivoted, or swiveled to the ends ot' springbands for encircling the hips of the person, which bands are secured or pivoted to the abdominal and front pad or pads or piece, the whole supporter being made of hard vulcanized india-rubber or guttapercha, or at its portions or parts, if composed of other material, such as metal, where exposed, or which come in contact with the body, so as to obviate the corrosion. of the supporter from use, or
from becoming in any manner defaced or soiled by the natural exudations or perspiration of the body, or from any cause to which it may be subjected by wear.
In the accompanying plate of drawings my improved supporter is illustrated, -Figure l ,l being a view of the supporter from the front, showing the manner in which it is worn, and
as applied to the figure ot' a woman; Fig. 2, a View of the outside face ot' the abdominal pad or pads of the supporter; and Fig. 3, a crosssection through spring-bands.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
A A in the drawings represent the two backpads of the supporter, each made of hard vulcanized india-rubber, and pivoted or swiveled to one end of spring-bands B for encircling lhe body, one pad, A, to each band B. These bands, when the supporter is worn, pass around the body over the hips. These bands B are made Vof suitable spring metal, cOV.- ered or coated upon their outside with hard vulcanized india-rubber or gutta-percha, to protect them from becoming corroded or otherwise injured or defaced by the exudations or perspiration of the body, with which it comes in contact.
C, the abdominal pad or pads of the supporter, which plate is made of hard vulcanized india-rubber, the bands B being hung or pivoted to this abdominal pad, one at each end of the same, passing under guide-bars D therefor. By making a supporter of hard vulcanized india-rubber, a very desirable, serviceable, and durable'supporter is obtained, and one which by use will not become injured or defaced.
I claim as new and desire t secure byLetters Patent- A supporter made of hard vulcanized indiarubber, substantially as and for the-purpose p described.
