UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
PATRICK J. OBRIEN, OF BUFFALO, NEW YORK.
REVOLVING BAR OR COUNTER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Iletters Patent No. 706,094, dated August 5, 1902. Application filed June 3, 1901. Serial No. 62,835.v (N0 model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, PATRICK J. OBRIEN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Buffalo, in the county of Erie and State of New York, have invented certain new and. useful Improvements in Revolving-Barsor Connupon which the customers stand while being served.
The object of my invention is to provide a mechanical sensation in a line not heretofore accomplished; and to that end myinvention consists, broadly, of a revolving bar or counter with attached surrounding section of flooring and a stationary central column or post.
My invention further consistsof certain details or accessories, all of which will be fully hereinafter described and claimed In the drawings, Figure l'is a side elevation of my novel'constructiom. partly sectional and with portions broken away; and Fig. 2 is a similar plan view of the same.
Referring to the drawings, it will be seen that 1 is the bar or counter, preferably made in circular form, and 2 is the surrounding section of flooring upon which the bar or counter is secured and with which it' revolves. This flooring is necessarily circular and is'surrounded by the stationary flooring 3, both being in the same plane andsuitably inclosed within the walls'et, provided with-the entrance 5. The revolving flooring 2 is laid in separate segments, which rest upon the.
radial metal reaches 6, suitably secured at their inner ends to a common revolving frame 7. In these reaches 6 are journaled a series of friction-rollers 8, which ride upon the circular metal strips 9, which rest upon the supporting-floor. 10 underneath.
Around the outer edge of the under surface of the circular flooring 2 is secured the toothed rack 11, adapted for engagement with the cog-Wheel 12, connected by the belt 13 to a motor 14. of any suitable description for generating the power required to revolve the flooring 2 and its attached bar or counter 1.
The stationary central column or post 15 rises to aconsiderable height above the bar or counter and is provided with a series of shelves 16 and faucets 17.
The above illustrates a simple arrangement of parts for carrying out my invention and may be varied to a considerable extent in detail and arrangement without departing from the spirit of my invention.
In operation refreshmentsmay be served to customers at the bar or counter, in which case the customers travel around with the revolving flooring 2, upon which they stand, or, if desired, they may step off onto the sta tionary flooring 3 and be served at thetables18.
My improved device may be operated in a tent or building constructed purposely or may be set up in a room in a hotel or other building.
I claim An endless bar or counter with attached surrounding section of flooring having a toothed rack and radially-directed arms disposed upon its under surface, said arms carrying roller-bearings, a fixedflooring disposed beneath the aforesaid'flooring and having trackways disposed upon'itsupper surface and over which said roller-bearings are adaptedto travel, another section of flooring surrounding the first mentioned flooring, means for rotating 'the bar or counter about a common center with its attached surrounding section offlooring, and an open space PATRICK J. OBRIEN.
