Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented April 30, 1907.
A li ti fil d November 15,1905. Serial No. 287,389.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, PHILLIP RAMMINGER, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Plymouth, in the county of Sheboygan and State of lVisconsin, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Bureaus; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof.
The object of my invention is to provide a simple, compact and economical revoluble bureau having a plurality of drawers therein which may be brought successively to a predetermined point by revolving the bureau frame upon its base, thereby making it possible to place said bureau against a wall or corner and at the same time have access to all of its drawers, said bureau as shown being also provided with a central independently revoluble mirror.
My invention consists in various peculiarities of construction and combination of parts as hereinafter set forth with reference to the accompanying drawings and subsequently claimed.
In the drawings: Figure 1 represents a vertical sectional view of a bureau embodying the features of my invention; the supporting base and spindle thereof being shown in full; a sectional plan view of the bureau base, said section being indicated by line 22 of Fig. 1; Fig. 3, a sectional plan view of the bureau-taken on the plane as indicated by line 33 of Fig. 4; Fig. 4, a vertical detail section of the bureau indicated by line 44 of Fig. 3, Fig. 5, a detail lan view of one of the bureau partitions, ant Fig. 6, a detail section thereof on line 66 of Fig. 3.
Referring by letter to the drawings, A rep resents the supporting base of a bureau, which is composed of a central hub B having legs O attached thereto and a spindle D projecting upward from said hub. The legs O are provided with the usual casters at their feet, and are suitably braced by straps a, said legs being also formed with arms b upon which are mounted casters 0 for the support of the revoluble frame E of the bureau. The frame E which is loosely fitted over the spindle D, is also centrally supported by balls cl interposed between an annular grooved plate 6, secured to the hub, and a similar plate f secured to the bottom partition F of said frame. The partition F as shown is made up of sections of material to form a circular contour, having radial cross-arms g and a central opening it, the arms being provided with parallel cleats for the purpose of guiding radially sliding drawers G, the said partition with the exception of a depending apron j, being similar in construction to the intermediate and top partitions II, I, respectively.
In order to properly space the partitions apart and support the latter so as to produce a rigid, light frame for the drawers,s(piare sections of hollow posts J are inserted over the spindle D between each of the partitions, there being corresponding spacing blocks K at the extreme edges thereof. The blocks are provided with inner grooves ]t' for the reception of tie-rods m which serve to draw the several parts together. These rods pass through holes in said partitions, their heads a forming shoulders bearing upon the outer face of the upper partition I while the ends thereof are threaded to receive nuts 0 upon the under face of the lower partition F, as best illustrated iii-Fig. 4, of the drawings.
The corners of the square posts J are beveled off to economize space; for the purpose of admitting a second set of tie-rods p adjacent thereto, which serve to draw the several partitions together in opposition to the posts at this point in a similar manner to those previously described.
As best illustrated in Fig. 5, the spacingblocks K are set so as to divide the circular periphery of the horizontal partitions into quarters, in which are fitted the quadrant drawers G these drawers are provided with central guide-rails q secured to their bottoms and adapted to rest between the parallel cleats i for the purpose of preventing side motion of said drawers when the latter are opened or closed. The side walls 1' of said drawers are of such height that their upper edges contact with the bottom face of the adjacent partition which prevents said drawers from sagging when pulled open.
The spindle D, as previously stated, is fitted into the opening lb of the upper partition I, and terminates just below the outer face thereof, so as to prevent contact with a top L, which is secured to said partition, the top is centrally bored to admit a shank s that is stepped into a socket t in the end of the spindle D, said shank forming a revoluble pivot for a yoke M to which it is attached, the yoke serving as a hanger for a mirror M. of the usual type.
While I have and shown and described my invention in connection with a cylindrical bureau having two tiers of drawers in sets of four, it is obviously within the scope of my invention to multiply or decrease the num ber of tiers.
Having thus described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters-Patent is In a revoluble bureau, a supporting base having a central spindle, upper, lower and I intermediate horizontal partitions comprising circular outer portions and radial arms, central openings in the arms whereby bearings are formed for the spindle, square hollow spacing-posts interposed between the partitions and surrounding said spindle, tierods for the partitions adjacent to the post, spacing-blocks interposed between the aforesaid partitions at their peripheral edges, grooves in the blocks, tie-rods fitted in the grooves and engaging the upper and lower partitions, sliding drawers between said blocks, radial guide-cleats for the drawers secured to the lower and intermediate partitions, and a top secured to the upper partition. In testimony that I claim the foregoing I have hereunto set my hand at Plymouth, in the county of Sheboygan and State of Wisconsin in the presence of two Witnesses.
