UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JAMES W. CASE, OF YPSILANTI, MICHIGAN, ASSIGNOR OF ONE-HALF HIS RIGHT TO JOHN GILBERT, OE SAME PLACE.
IMPROVEMENT IN MlLK-SAFES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 121,155, dated November 21, 1871.
To all whom 'it may concern:
Be it known that I, JAMES W. CASE, of the city of Ypsilanti, in the county of Washtenaw and State of Michigan, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in RevolvingMilk- Safes; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawing and to the letters of reference marked thereon which form a part of this specification.
The nature of my invention consists in the construction and arrangement of a milk-safe, as will be hereinafter more fully set forth.
In order to enable others skilled in the art to which my invention appertains to make and use the same, Iwill now proceed to describe its construction and operation, referring to the annexed drawing, in which:-
Fignre l is a side viewof my milk-safe with the doors thrown open to show the interior. Figs. 2, 3, 4, and 5 are plan views of the various revolving shelves used in the same, and Figs. 6 and 7 show a movable shelf also employed there- 1n.
A represents the safe proper, made in octagon shape, in the usual manner, and provided with Through the center of the safe A passes a shaft or post, B, which is so arranged that it can readily be taken out and put in again for the purpose of cleaning, but when in place in the safe it shall be stationary and not revolve. 0n the post B are placed shelves 0, D, E, G, and H, all revolving around the post independent of each other, so that any portion of any separate milking can be removed without disturbing other portions or milkings. The upper revolving shelf 0 is made solid so as to hold small tins, but in sections so as to be easily removed and cleaned. The three next lower or middle shelves D, E,
.underneath.
and G are made open or skeleton so as to admit of free circulation of air; and one, E, of these is constructed with arms, as shown in Fig. 4, which are adjustable and can be removed, and thus allow the shelf next above to drop down and thus give more room between the shelves. The lower revolving shelf H is made solid, and rests on three or more rollers, I I, so as to support crocks of butter or heavier articles and revolve easily, and at the same time admit of circulation of air All the shelves have each a hub in the center which fits around the center post B, and they are all, except the lower shelf H, supported by a collar, a, or pin b, under each hub,
which collars or pins can be raised or lowered to vary the spaces between the shelves.
The hubs of the various shelves may be made of wood, iron, or other material, and be either square or round.
J represents a movable shelf provided with legs or supports d d and made portable, so that it can be used both on the outside and inside of the doors.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The combination of the octagon safe A, central post B, shelves 0, D, E, G, and H, rollers I I, and portable shelf J, all constructed and arranged substantially as shown and described, and for the purposes herein set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
JAMES W. CASE.
