NITED STATES ADAM s. BROWN, OF DELPHI, INDIANA.
IMPROVEMENT IN KlTCHEN-SAFES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 132,624, dated October 29, 1872.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ADAM S. BROWN, of Delphi, in the county of Carroll and State of Indiana, have invented a new and valuable Improvement in Kitchen-Safes; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the.construction and operation of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawing making a part of this specification, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon.
The figure of the drawing is a representation of a sectional View of my invention.
This invention has relation to kitchen-safes; and consists, first, in the construction and novel arrangement, within a polygonal or cylindrical safe, of a series of independently-rotating shelves 5 also, in the arrangement of a sliding shelf at the bottom of the safe, and the construction and novel arrangement of insectguards, all as hereinafter more fully described.
Referring to the accompanying drawing, A represents a six-sided kitchen-safe, made of wood, thin metal, 61' both, and supported upon short legs B. G G designate a series of horizontal shelves, circular or disk formed, each of which is secured to an independent short shaft, D, arranged to rotate in bearings formed in the transverse bars E, which are supported by uprights F located near the side of the safe. Each of these shelves may be turned independently of the others, so that articles may be conveniently taken from any part without the necessity of turning all the shelves. The shelves 0 are made in skeleton I form, or of open work, so as to allow the air to circulate freely through the safe. The top shelf 0 may be plain, and used to hold articles which would not be secure on the other shelves. Access is had to the shelves through a doorway at 0 E designates a sliding shelf, supported by slides F at the bottom of the safe, and capable of being drawn out when needed underneath the door-way. This shelf is a convenience for receiving articles from the shelves when several are being taken therefrom, or for setting, for instance, a vessel of milk upon it while the cream is being skimmed,.as well as for other obvious purposes. Attached to the top and lower end of the uprights F, and to the legs B, are shallow cups G, having cylindrical sockets F to encircle the uprights F and supports B. These cups are designed to contain water for the purpose of preventing insects from getting into the safe and onto the shelves. H. H designate ventilators covered with wire-gauze. I is a slide, which may be used to close the ventilatorH.
What I claim as new is--- The safe herein described, having shaft D,
PETER PIERCE.
