Description

l @uiten tetes gstellt @frn BENJAMIN E. HARRIS, 0F LOCKPOR'I, ILLINOIS, ASSIGNOR T() HIMSELE, F. G. HARRIS, AND SENECA SLY, OF SAME PLAGE.
Letters Patent No. 70,558, dated November 5, 18467.
IMPROVBD MACHINE POR STAMIING AND SHAPING LEATHER.
TO ALL WIIOM IT MAY' CONCERN: I
Be it known that I, BENJAMIN B. HARRIS, of Lockport, in the county of Will, and State of Illinois, have invented a new and improved Device for Stamping and Shaping Leather; and I do hereby declare thatthe following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others 'skilled in the art to make and use the saine, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specifi-cation.
This invention relates to an improved device for stamping and shaping leather, and consist in a combination of toggle-joint, levers, springs, follower, dies and knife, as hereinafter more fully described. In the accompanying drawings- Figure l isl a. side elevation, and
Figure 2 a front elevation of my improved machine.
Figure 3 is a top view ct' a die and knife, and
Figure 4 is a section thereof on line x :u of fig. 3.
Simiiar letters of reference indicate like parts.
A A is the frame, in which the parts of the machine are disposed. ,The post B plays through the loose mortise a in A, and is hinged at e to the follower C, which is pivoted to the frame A at c', forming with it a togglejoint, the spring U keeping the `joint open. The lever of the second order, D, having its fulcrum at S, and connected by the elbow or bell-crank E, stirrup e, and hookf, to the post B, operates the toggle-joint and brings the follower C down upon the knife lc, carried in the knife or die-plate I. Gr is the stage, borne on the post B, having the dove-tailed groove g to receive the die or knife-plate I, and a hole, m, for the-leather when cut to fall through. Dove-tailed pin L holds the die-plate I in place.
What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
frame A, having the stage-post B hung from it, and playing through e. loose mortise, in manner substantially as herein shown and described. I
2. rEhe die or knife-plate I, carrying the knife 7c, sliding in the dove-tailed groove g, on stage G, ivliichis furnished with the hole m, and bolted by the dove-tailed pin L to the stage G, all as set forth, in combination with the toggle-joint, levers, and followers, substantially as herein shown and described.
BENJAMIN B. HARRIS.
