HOSE-SUPPORTER HOOK.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 704,249, dated July 8, 1902.
Application filed April 17, 1902. Serial No. 103,372. (No model.)
To all whont it may concern:
Be it known that 1, MYRON B. HAMMOND, a citizen of the United States, residing at Bridgeport, in the county of Fairfield and State of Connecticut, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Hose-Supporter Hooks; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
My invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in hooks for hose-supporters, but more particularly has reference to a hook adapted to be secured to the stud of a corset-clasp, while the stocking-engaging members are secured in any suitable and ordinary manner to the bottom of the hook.
The object of my improvement is to provide a hook of this description which shall remain permanently attached to a corset busk and stud and which shall be incapable of rocking or lateral accidental displacement.
In the accompanying drawings, which form a part of this application, Figure 1 is afront elevation showing a hose-supporter equipped with my improved hook, which latter is attached in position on a corset; and Fig. 2 is a detail rear perspective of my improved hook.
Similar numbers of reference denote like parts in both figures of the drawings.
1 is the body of my improved fastener, which is made of sheet metal cut away, as seen at 2, at its forward edge, and 3 4 are rearwardly-extending resilient flanges integral with the body 1 and extending, respectively, from the upper and lower ends of this cutaway portion 2.
5 is a notch formed in the upper part of the inner wall of this cut-away portion in a position below the horizontal plane of the upper flange 3, and 6 is a recess formed in the rear wall of the cut-awayportion immediately below the notch 5.
In applying my improvement to a corset the upper portion is first forced upon the busk 7 and the corset-stud 8 brought within the recess 6. The lower portion of my improvement is then forced upon the busk, so that both flanges 3 4: will firmly bear against the under side of the busk, and this will bring the stud 8 clear of the recess and in alinement with the notch 5. The fastener is now pulled downwardly, so as to bring the stud within this notch.
In the drawings at Fig. l Ihave shown the lower portion of my metallic hook secured to an ordinary flexible pad 9, from which latter the stocking-engaging members 10 11 depend; but of course I do not wish to be limited in this respect, since the stocking-supporters proper may be secured to the lower end of my device in any approved and well-known manner.
It will be observed that the notch 5 is in a position below the plane of the upper flange 3, and therefore a side thrust at the lower end of my fastener will not cause the device to wabble and work loose from the busk and stud.
In removing my improvement the fastener is pushed upwardly until the recess 6 is opposite the stud, and the bottom of my fastener is then pushed outwardly, which will bring the lower flange clear of the busk, and thus permit the ready removal of the device.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
A hose-supporter hook, comprising a sheetmetal body cut away at its front edge and having a notch in the upper wall of said cutaway portion and a recess in the rear wall of said portion immediately below said notch, and provided with rearwardly-extending resilient flanges at the upper and lower ends of said cut-away portion, said fastener adapted to be forced on the corset-husk with the flanges extending in the rear of said busk, while the'notch is capable of embracing the stud of the corset-clasp, substantially as set forth.
