WM fiZ/JW M W UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
WILLIAM L. STEVENS, OF CLEVELAND, OHIO, ASSIGNOR OF ONE-HALF TO D. O. WOOD, OF CLEVELAND, OHIO.
TOWEL-FASTENER- Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Nov. 21, 1905.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, WILLIAM L. STEVENS, a citizen of the United States, residing at Cleveland, in the county of Cuyahoga and State of Ohio, have invented a new and useful Towel-Fastener, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
The object of the invention is to provide a new and improved fastener for napkins or cloths or towels, more especially designed for use on towels slipped or fastened over the head to keep the hair in place after washing or shampooin the same and arranged to prevent the towel from slipping, becoming loosened, or in any way moving on the head.
The invention consists of certain parts and details and combinations of the same, as will be hereinafter described and then pointed out in the claim.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, in which similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the figures.
Figure 1 is a perspective view of the fastener, as applied. Fig. 2 is a front view of the same detached. Fig. 3 is a side view of the same. Fig. 4 is a sectional view of the device, showing the main band and the curved arm with grip-teeth.
This article for which I desire Letters Patent consists of metal A, properly tempered, with the main band I) about one and one-half to two inches in width preferably curved to approximate the curve of the back of the head, tapering at each end to a curved point. The arms a, as shown in Fig. 2, being a portion of the same piece of metal as the main band are usually a trifle longer than the main band is wide and are bent back over the convex surface of the main or body strip, curved on one side, the other side having a variable number of teeth d, Fig. 2 showmg eight teeth. After the towel 6 shall have been properly fitted over the head, as shown in Fig. 1, this appliance is fitted with the concave side toward the head, a portion of the towel being brought around and over the teeth, which are pressed into and through this part of the towel. In this manner the towel is held firmly and prevented from slipping in any manner or in any wise from becoming detached or loosened except by the deliberate act of a person in releasing the same.
Having thus fully described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- A towel-clasp consisting of an extended rigid base having two arms on one of its sides, said arms projecting at right angles from the side edge of the base for a short distance and then bent at a right angle and'extending parallel to and across the breadth of the base, each arm having teeth upon its inner edge and pointing toward the op osite arm substantially as shown and described.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
WILLIAM L. STEVENS.
