I ['NVENTOR,
Q A TTORNEYS GEORGE W. FLETCHER, OF MENDON, ILLINOIS.
PIN ATTACHMENT.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Sept. 11, 1906.
Application filed March 2, 1906. Serial No. 303.867.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, GEORGE WV. FLETCHER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Mendon, in the county of Adams and State of Illinois, have invented a new and useful Pin Attachment, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to devices employed for supporting napkins and similar articles in convenient position, and has for its object to improve the construction and increase the efiiciency of devices of this character.
With these and other objects in view, which will appear as the nature of the invention is better understood, the invention consists in certain novel features of construction, as hereinafter fully described and claimed.
In the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, and in which corresponding parts are denoted by like designating characters, is illustrated the preferred form of the embodiment of the invention capable of carrying the same into practical operation.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective view of the device applied as a napkinholder. Fig. 2 is a rear elevation of the device. Fig. 3 is a transverse section on the line 3 3 of Fig. 2. Fig. 4 is a perspective view from the rear, illustrating a modification in the construction.
The improved device comprises an oblong body 10, with one face concaved longitudinally and with a catch 12 at one end centrally of the concaved surface and with a pin 11 swinging from the body centrally of the concaved surface at the other end and adapted to be detachably engaged with the catch. Extending from the body centrally of one of its longer edges are one or more studs 14, curving over the concaved face and toward the pin 11 and also toward the opposite edge of the plate.
The studs 14 being located at one edge of the concaved body and the pin 11 extending longitudinally of the body and centrally of the concaved surface when the body is at tached to the clothing, the side edges will be compressed against the clothing with considerable force and the stud 14 also compressed with corresponding force against the article to be held and represented at 15.
The efficiency and utility of the device is thus materially increased by the convexed form of the body and the location of the pin relative thereto and the location of the stud relative to the concaved face and the holding-pin.
The device is more-particularly designed for holding a napkin in position upon the person and for the purpose of illustration is shown thus employed, the napkin being represented at 15 in Figs. 1 and 3.
Any number of the studs 14 may be em' ployed, and in Fig. 1 a single stud is shown, while in Fig. 2 two studs are shown.
If preferred, the stud may be pointed, as at 16 in Fig. 4, to enable it to puncture the article being held.
Having thus described the invention, is claimed is- 1. A device of the class described comprising an oblong body having a catch at one end and with a spur extending from one edge of the plate and curving toward the other edge, and a pin swinging from the plate at the same side as the spur at the end opposite to the catch and adapted to be engaged at its free end detachably with said catch.
2. A device of the class described consisting of an oblong body with one surface concaved longitudinally, a catch extending from said body at one end centrally of said concaved surface, a pin swinging from said body at the other end centrally of the concaved surface and adapted to be detachably engaged with said catch at its free end, and a spur extending from one side edge of said body at the same side as the pin and curvin over said concaved surface and toward sai In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own I have hereto affixed my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
