BooK HANGER.
Application vledrFeb'ruary 18,` 1925. SeralNmlOl.
or 'other similar article, whereby tll ASame may be conveniently suspended from a nail, hook, or other similar. means.`
Another object is to' provide a device which-will permit the: book tol besuspended vin-closepro'ximity tothe wall, deskior.otherl support, or lie iiatupon a horizontal:V support. l l
Another object- 1s: to provide a device which is simple in construction, durable,
efficient and inexpensive to manufacture;
Another object is to provide a device. which is adjustable to accommodate books oi various thicknesses.
Another object is. toprovide certain im provements in the form` construction and arrangement ot the parts whereby the above named and other objects may be effectively attained. n
A practical embodiment of my invention is represented in the accompanying drawings, in which Fig. l represents a plan view ot' my improved device and a portion ot the book, shown in dotted lines, to which it is applied.
Fig. 2 represents a side elevation of the same. i
Fig. 3 represents a front elevation of the same.
Fig. 4l represents a rear elevation of the same, and Q Figs. 5 and 6 represent detached inside elevations of the two members which engage the book.
The device comprises members denoted by l, 2 disposed in opposite relation, and a means for locking` the members in position on the back or rear edge 3 of the book i, shown in dotted lines, which means, in the present instance, includes a. screw threaded bolt 5 and a thumb-nut 6.
The member l is formed of metal and comprises a body portion 7, a vertical wall 8 developed therefromq a torwardlyextended wall 9, and an ear l() extending rearwardly and in the plane of the wall 9. The wall 9 is provided with an inwardly turned edge ll having a plurality oit teeth l2 formed thereon, which teeth are adapted to bite into or engage the back of the book. The body portion T is preferably formed with a hole 13 arranged to receive the squared end 14,
shown in `dotted outlines in FigsV l tofliinclusive of the bolt lVhilel have shown i the bolt 5 provided with a head 15the head may be Omitted and the bolt rigidly secured inthe hole 13 by any wellknown or ap-A proved means.` y i The member 2 is also formed-ot metal and constructed-similar to the member` l. This member 2` comprises a body portion 16,.,a vertical wall l'sdeveloped therefrom,- and a forwardly extending, wallV 18, vwhich basan inwardly tur-ned edge 19 `pro/vidw'l with series of teeth 20, which arev arranged to` engage thefront cover ot' the book andoper-V ate in conyunctlon with the` teeth`12 oli" the member l.' The body portionl alsophasa e i hole 21-v therethrough y for thel reception ,and passage of the screw threaded portion of the b0lt5-- i; l
In assembling the device, the members 1 and 2 are arranged with the vertical walls 8 and 17 in close proximity to the rear edge 3 of the book 4, and the forwardly eXtendi ing walls 9 and 18 substantially in contact with the cover and back of the book. The bolt 5 is passed into and through the hole 13 of the member l until the head l5 abuts the body portion 7, in which position the threadedvend of thebolt will be located in the hole 20 and extend beyond the member 2 so as to receive the thumb nut 6. By screwing the thumb nut 6 on the bolt 5 it will engage the member 2, and draw the head l5 against the member l, which v`movement causes the teeth 12 and 2O to bite into the front and back cover of the book, Whereupon the device will be securely yfastened thereto. As a means by which the book may be suspended from a wall, desk, or other support, (not shown), I provide the ear l() of the member l with a hole 22, which' is arranged to receive a hook, nail, or other similar means, (not shown).
From the foregoing, it will be seen that the device is securely fastened to the book and, when desired, it may be suspended from the ear 10 ot the member' l, and lie substantially flat to the Wall or other object.
Furthermore, the device may be readily removed .from the book without the use of tools, enabling the substitution of another bookot the same thickness, or one within the i limit of the thumb nut on the screw threaded portion of the bolt.
It is obvious that various changes may be Y resorted to in the form, construction and ar- `rangement of the several parts Without departing-from the spirit and scope of my invention; end hence, I do not intend y,to be limited to the details herein shown and deof seid members including a; frontwell arranged to contact with the cover or' the book `end a back Wall disposed substantially at right angles `to said front Wall to engage the back edge `of the book, one of seid members having its front `Well extending rearwardly endangularly oiiset therefrom and provided with a hole therethrough for suspending the book, and an adjustable menne `for locking the members in position on the book.
2. A book `henger comprising, a pair of members disposed in oppositereletion, each of seid members including u front Wall zirrenged to contact with the cover of the book und u back wiiilfdisposedsubstentieliy et right-angles to seidlront well to engage-the beck edge ofthe book, seid front Well heving its edge provided with `elplurelity of teeth arranged to puncture the cover and Y hold the `member in position thereon, one of seid members having its front Wall extending rearwardly and engulerly offset and provided with e hole therethrough for suspending the book, and en adjustable means for locking the members in position on the book.
A book henger comprising, e pair oi' members disposed in; opposite relation, each of seid members including n front well zu ranged to contact `with the'cover of the bool: and` :i baie-,k well disposed substantially ut right angles to seid front Veil to engzzge the back edge of the book, seid front Well having its edge provided with it plurality of inwerdly turned teeth disposed in a plaine perallel with seid beck wall und arranged to puncture the cover and hold the member in position thereon, one oi seid members heving its front Well extending rearwardly und angulurly oliset and provided with e hole therethrough for suspending the book, und un adjustubleinenns for locking the mein bers in position on the book. i ln testimony, that l claim the foregoing as my invention, l have signed my nume this '11th deyoi February, 1925. e
