/ UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JOHN H. SYME, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS.
POCKET-CLOSURE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 702,505, dated J' une 17, 1902. l
Application iiled .Ianuary 14:, 1901. Serial No. 43.245. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOHN H. SYME, of Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented a useful noveltyin Pocket- Closures, which I call an Automatic Lock, of which the following is an exact description, reference being made to the accompanying drawings, making a part of this application.
This relates to the production of a locking device that will keep closed any horizontal pocket on any garment that is worn comparatively close to the body. It is simple and without any attachments 1:0 get out of order.
It does not depend on the care of the wearer,
to keep it closed. It is perfectly automatic and will also keep the pockets from sagging or tearing at the sides and will also keep the garment in good shape. It will not only keep articles secure in the pockets, but also such articles as are usually partly out of the pocketssuch as pens, pencils, small tools, &c. It will prevent them from falling out.
Figure 1 represents the lock in its normal position near the top of apocket in a garment A. Fig. 2 is a sectional view along the line A A, Fig. l, with the pocket closed; and Fig.
3 the same open and awatchD therein. Fig.Y
4 is a side view of the device, and Fig. 5 is a top view thereof, the dotted lines showing the lock open. p
The parts of the automatic pocket-lock consist of two bands B C, curved to the shape of the body and riveted or otherwise fastened securely together, Fig. 4., C. They may be made of any flexible material, of a resilient nature, steel preferred.
To properly secure the device to the garment,xB`shouldbe fastened at each end by holes b inside of the outer wall or part'of the garment near the top of the pocket a. The
pocket is placed between the two `bands B and C. 'A strong =piece of liningis lplaced npper edge C" of C is slightly higher than B.
This is to facilitate the opening of the pocket.
Having described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
In a pocket-closure, the combination of two l at resilient strips of different lengths, riveted together and secured around the upper edge of the pocket, the longer strip projecting at each end of the shorter strip, and one ,of the stripsfprojecting above-the other at the edge of the pocket, whereby'the opening ofthepocket is facilitated, substantially as set forth. i w
I have signed my name to this specification in the presence ofr4 two subscribing witnesses.
JOHN H. sYME.
