DISPLAY-RACK.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 702,232, dated June 10,1902. Application filed October 28,1899. Renewed December 4. 1901. Serial No. 84,632. (No model.)

To a. whom it may concern.-

Be it known that I, GEORGE E. MOORE, of the city of St. Louis, State of Missouri, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Display-Racks, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part hereof.

My invention relates to display-racks such as are usually positioned in show-windows, show-cases, and upon counters, which racks are used for holding and displaying hats and the like.

Myinvention consists of the novel construction, combination, and arrangement of parts hereinafter shown, described, and claimed.

Figure 1 is a side elevation of a displayrack of my improved construction, ahat being shown in dotted lines in position upon the rack. Fig. 2 is a plan View of the rack. Fig. 3 is a detail view of the upper end of one of the fingers.

In the construction of my improved rack a suitable base 1 has seated in its center the vertically-arranged rod or standard 2, on top of which rod is fixedin any suitable manner a sheet-metal disk 3, the edge of which is curved downwardly, and in said disk, adjacent its curved edge, is formed a plurality of apertures 4, the same being equal distances apart. Arranged to slide upon the rod 2 is a sleeve 5, there being a set-screw 6 passed through said sleeve to engage upon the rod, thus making said sleeve adjustable atany point along its travel upon said rod. Seated inthe top of the sleeve and extending upwardly through the apertures 4: in the disk 3 are the fingers 7, the same being constructed of short sections of spring-wire, said sections being of equal length, and the upper ends of said sections are bent into the loops 8. Then the sleeve 5 is at its lowermost limit of movement, the loops 8 rest directly on top of the disk 3, and when the sleeve 5 is moved upwardly toward said disk 3 the fingers 7' pass upwardly through the apertures 4: and project radially from the disk In some in- 3 and the sleeve 5.

In the use of my improved display-rack the set-screw 6 is loosened, and the sleeve 5 is drawn downwardly,and the upper ends of the fingers 7 are then passed into the crown of the hat, after which the sleeve 5 will be automatically moved upwardly on the rod 2 by the action of the spring 12 until the upper ends of the fingers engage the top or side walls of the crown of the hat, after which the setscrew 6 may be tightened upon the rod 2, and thus the hat is securely held, and the entire display-rack, having the hat thereon, may be moved around upon a shelf or in a showwindow without disturbing the hat from its correct position upon the rack. By the use of a rack of my improved construction it is not necessary to pass a number of pins through the hat to correctly position the same upon the rack, and said rack is applicable for use in displaying hats having very small or very large crowns.

I claim- In a display-rack having a plurality of springactuated fingers, loops 10 formed on the ends of said fingers, and points 11 pro jecting from said loops, as and for the purpose specified.
