Be it known that I, HENRYYBANDLEE, a citizen of the United States, residing in the city and county of Philadelphia, State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Garments, of which the following is a specification'.

My invention consists in providing a garment with means for adjusting the width and tightness of the waistband or waist portion thereof. Y

Referring to the drawings, A designates a pair of trousers which, excepting the features of my invention applied thereto, isof usual form. The waistband or waist portion of the trousers at the sides thereof are divided-say from ato b-and the walls of the divided parts are connected by the gussets B, producing the iiaps C, which may be folded vertically over the opposite parts D of said waistband or portion.

On the end of each iap Gis a hook or catch E, and on the face of the part D are pluralities of bars or eyes F, with either of which said catch E is adapted to engage.

The operation is as follows When the trousers are put on, the flaps C are turned over upon the opposite parts D and the catches E hooked on the eyes F, it being evident that if the waistband or waist portion is too tight said catches are connected with the eyes F nearest to the front of the trousers, and should said band be too loose said catches are fitted on the eyes that are farthest removed from said front, by which provision the tightness of the waist or waistband may be adjusted in a simple, convenient, and inexpensive manner, it also being evident that by the use of the fastening device employed the straps and buckles on the back of trousers are avoided.

G designates pockets `at the sides of the 5o trousers, the outer walls of the main portion of each of the same being one of the walls of the division made in the trousers to permit of the insertion of the gusset. One side edge of the latter is stitched to the upper portion of the rear wall of said pocket, while the other side edge is stitched to the opposite wall of said division, so that whether the gusset is folded to full or practical extent the pocket is not changed in appearance or position, 6o

while the utilization of the wall of the pocket avoids material thickening of the trousers at the place of occupation of the gusset.

It is also evident that while I have described my invention as applied to a pair of trousers,

it is applicable to other garments having waist or waistbands, such as drawers, skirts, shirtwaists, and the like.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters 7o l. A garment having a divided waistband, a pocket having its rear wall divided from the adjacent portion of the garment below one wall of said band, a gusset occupying the Vspace between the divisions, and a fastening having its members on the opposite walls of said band, said gusset being secured at one side to one wall of said band and a portion of the garment below the same, and at the other 8o side to the opposite wall of said band and the rear wall of the pocket below the same.
