ALBUM FOR CLOTHING-PATTERNS, DRAWINGS, 80C.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 699,871, dated May 13, 1902.
Application filed December 5, 1901. Serial Nor 84,855. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, KARL AUGUST J OHANS- SON, tailor, a subject of the King of Sweden and Norway, residing at Radhusgatan 9, Sodertelje, in the Kingdom of Sweden, have invented new and useful Improvements in Albums for Clothing- Patterns, Drawings, Documents, and Similar Things, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings.
The object of the present invention is to produce a convenient and reliable album for the mounting of cloth-patterns, drawings, documents, and the like in such manner that they shall be capable of ready reference; and it consists in the various combinations and details of construction hereinafter described and claimed.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a front view of an open album embodying myinvention. Fig. 2 is a top plan view of said album, fully open, showing two leaves inserted therein. Fig. 3 is a like view of a slightly-modified form of the album. Fig. 4 is a perspective view of said album provided with hinged cover flaps, WhGIC'IQbY when closed it may be completely incase Referring now to said drawings, 1 indicates a strong back, which may be of metal or wood or other suitable material. To this back the covers 2 are flexibly secured'as, for instance, by hinges 2and between these covers the leaves 3 are detachably mounted. Convenient for this purpose are brackets 4, which may be either curved, as in Fig. 2, or straight, as in Fig. 3, and are attached at the top and bottom of the back by fastenings 5, and a corresponding intermediate bracket 4 is also attached to said back centrally between the other two. These brackets are provided with registering holes 6,which,- with regard to the upper and lower, receive pintles-7 from the leaves. By bending the leaves their pintles may be readily engaged with or disengaged from the holes in the latter brackets. After the leaf has been sprung into place a hook 7 pivoted midway of the rear edge thereof, is engaged with a registering hole in the central bracket to prevent accidental bending thereof and consequent disengagement of its pintles, and also to act as an additional hingesupport. The number of intermediate brackets and hooks will of course depend upon the height and weight of the leaf.
While this album may be used upon the table, it is intended to be hung from a wall and for this purpose is provided centrally of the back, at top and bottom, with upstanding and depending pintles 8, which engage eyebolts or spikes 9 driven into the Wall.
The patterns or other objects to be held may be secured to the leaves by any suitable fastening. I have shown the leaves as provided wit-h hooks 10, upon which samples or clippings, or, in fact, anything for which such an album is intended, may be hung.
In order to adord a dust-excluding casing when the album is closed, I have provided one of the covers 2 with a hinged bottom flap 11 and the other cover with a hinged top flap 11 and hinged edge flap 12, so that when the album is shut the flap 11 may be closed up and secured by a locking device, as a hook 13, taking into a suitable eye on the opposite cover. The flap 11 may be closed down and the flap 12 closed in and locked-for instance, by hook 14:, carried thereby, and eye let on the cover opposite to that to which it is hinged.
I claim- 1. In a display-album the combination of the back 1 hinged covers 2, flexible leaves 3 with their pintles, perforated brackets 4, central bracket at, and hooks 7 secured to the leaves.
2. In a display-album, the combination of a back, hinged covers and individually removable and replaceable leaves, of the hinged top and bottom flaps 11 and 11*, the hinged front flap 12, and suitable fastenings therefor.
3. In a display-album having rigid back 1, covers 2 hinged thereto, andremovable and replaceable leaves 3, the combination with the back, of the top and bottom pintles S, and the eyebolts or spikes 9 secured to a suitable support and engaging said pintles.
In testimony whereof I affiX my signature in presence of two witnesses.
KARL AUGUST J OHANSSON.
