ROTARY SOLE-EDGE SETTER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of LettersjPatent N 0. 699,436, dated May 6, 1902. Application filodIebrunry 23. 1901. Serial No. 48,482. (No model.)
To all whont it may concern.-
Be it known that I, HAROLD A. WEBSTER, of Havel-hill, in the county of Essex and State of Massachusetts, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Rotary Sole-Edge Setters, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to an edge-setter for setting the edges of boot and shoe soles; and it consists in the novel features of construction and relative arrangement of parts hereinafterfullydescribedinspecification, clearly illustrated in the drawings, and particularly pointed out in the claims.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this application, in which like characters indicate like parts wherever they occur.
Figure 1 shows a top plan view of an edgesetter constructed in accordance with my invention. Fig. 2 is a vertical sectional view on the line 2 2 of Fig. 1.
I have not shown any means for rotating the edge-setter nor for securing it in place upon a shaft, nor have I shown a shield, such features not forming any part of this application and being well known in the art.
1) represents a driving member adapted to be supported upon and driven by a shaft in the usual way.
r represents rolls that are tapered or conical, the base of each roll resting upon a seat r of the driving member that is inclined to the axis of the latter. The rolls r are held in place by pins 0". The inclination of the seats r is such that the surfaces of rolls '1" will be arranged in substantial parallelism with their outer ends in an axial plane different from that of their inner ends that rest upon the seats N. If desired, the rolls may be slightly concaved, as shown at W. would leave a slight opening between the faces of two contiguous rolls. By this construction I am enabled to work upon or fashion inclined edges, such as shanks, &c.
I claim- 1. An edge -setter comprising a driving member and series of taper rolls secured to said driving member with their outer ends in an axial plane different from that of their inner ends.
2. As a new article of manufacture,an edgesetting member comprising a tapered or conical roll.
In testimony whereof I have affixed my signature in presence of two witnesses.
HAROLD A. WEBSTER.
