Description

UNIED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
VOLNEY E. BROWN, OF WOODSTOCK, ILLINOIS.
COMPOSITION FOR CLEANING METALS.
SPECIFICATION forming part Of Letters Patent No. 697,976, dated April 22, 1902.
Application filed September 25, 1901. Serial No. 76.567. (No specimens.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, VOLNEY E. BROWN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Woodstock, in the county of McHenry and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Compounds for Polishing Metal, of which the following is a specification.
The object of my invention is to provide an improved compound for polishing metals.
In carrying out my invention I combine the following ingredients in about the following proportions: cake-tallow, one and one-fourth pounds; gum-camphor, three ounces; beeswax, four ounces; raw linseed oil, eight ounces; kerosene oil, fifteen ounces; powdered tripoli, two pounds; oil of spearmint, one ounce. In mixing these ingredients the cake-tallow, gum-camphor, and beeswax are first melted together, and as soon as they are melted the raw linseed-oil is poured in. Then the kerosene is added, and while this mixture is still hot the powdered tripoli is added. This mixture is allowed to 0001 until it starts to get thick, and then the spearmint is added to give it a pleasant odor. The result is a able perfume may be used in place of the 35 spearmint.
I claim as my invention A metal-polishing compound consisting of the following ingredients in substantially the following proportions: cake tallow, one and 0 one fourth pounds; gum oamphor, three ounces; beeswax, four ounces; raw linseedoil, eight ounces; kerosene-oil, fifteen ounces; powdered tripoli, two pounds, and a suitable quantity of perfume.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto subscribed my name.
V. E. BROWN.
