Description

THOMAS P. GARRETT, OF WESTCLIFFE, COLQRADO.
LEATHER PRESERVING AND'FINISHING COMPOUND Specification of Letters Patent; Application filed June 15,1907. Serial No. 379,197.
Patented Sept. 10, 1907.
To all whom it may concern 1 Be it known that I, THOMAS P. GARRETT, a citizen of the United States, residing at Westcliffe, in the county of Custer and State of Colorado, have invented new and useful Improvements in Leather Preserving and Finishing Compounds, of which the following is a specification.
This invention is an improved leathor finishing and preserving compound and also serves to render leather water-proof, and to give it algloss and render the leather soft and pliable so that it can notbe readily broken.
My improved leather preserving and finishing compound consists of boiled linseed oil 64 parts by weight,
vaseline 8 parts by weight, lamp black 1 part by weight, oil of cloves a sufficient quantity.
Where I have used the followingproportions: boiled linseed oil 4 ounces; vaseline 1/2 ounce; lamp, black 1/16 ounce, I have found about 1.0 drops of oil of cloves serve the leatlieix and makes it a sufficient quantity. These ingredients are thoroughly mixed by stirring. 2
When my improved composition has been epblied to leather and well rubbed in, it serves to render the leather water-proof, gives it a fin gloss, serves to prei so soft and pliable that it will not'break when bent. I i j What I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
A leather preserving compound composed of boiled linseed oil, vaseline lzimp black, and an essential oil to impart an odor thereto and neutralize the odor of the linseed 3 oiL. y
In testimony whereof, I afiix my signature in presence of twofwitnesses.
