My invention consists in the composition and in the'steps of compounding the same hereinafter described and claimed.
In compounding my varnish, I use the following ingredients in the proportions stated:
g gal. of boiled linseed oil.
1 quart of gloss oil which is a trade name applied to a varnish made of benzine and rosin 'or other inexpensive resin.

Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented June 24, 1919.
Application filed January 29, 1919. Serial No. 273,858.
%; of a pound of litharge (PbO).
A small quantity of water to make a paste with the litharge.
1 quarter of a pint of benzine.
The resulting varnish is thinner than the ordinary varnish and works freer under the brush, leaving no brush marks. The color is light straw, but when applied to the objects to be varnished it appears colorless.
Dyes or paint pigments may be added to this varnish as desired.
IVhile I have described the preferred proportions of the ingredients to be used it will be understood by those skilled in the art that the proportions may be varied without departing from the spirit of my invention as claimed.
I claim:
1. A varnish comprising boiled linseed oil, rosin Varnish, benzine, coal oil, japam'litharge and water.
2. A process of compounding a varnish comprising making a mixture of boiled linseed oil, rosin varnish, benzine, coal oil and japan and adding thereto a mixture of litharge, water and benzine.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification.
ZAKARIA N. BERGMAN.
