To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, WILLIAM ALPHEN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Gloucester, in the county of Essex and State of Massachusetts, have invented a new and useful Compound of Matter to be Used to Prevent Belts from Slipping upon Pulleys, of which the following is a specification.
My compound consists of the following ingredients, combined in the proportions stated-viz, ground red ochre, four pounds; ground oxide copper, three pounds; ground soapstone, one-half pound; ground oxide zinc, one-half pound; ground barytes, one-half pound; Stockholm tar, one pint; naphtha, three pints and one gill; raw linseed-oil, one gill. These ingredients are to be thoroughly mixed together by stirring.
In using the above named compound the mixture should be thoroughly stirred before using and applied to the face of the belt With a stick or a common bristle or painters brush, completely covering the face of the belt With a thin coat of the compound.
By the use of the above compound the belt Will not slip upon the pulleys, even though the belt is running loose or slack.
I am aware that some of the ingredients used in my compound have been used to prevent belts from slipping upon pulleys, but I am not aware that all of the ingredients of my compound in the proportions stated have been used together.
What I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States, is
The herein described compound of matter, to be used to prevent belts from slipping upon pulleys, consisting of ground red ochre, ground oxide copper, ground soap stone, ground oxide zinc, ground barytes, Stockholm tar, naphtha, and raw linseed oil, in the proportions specified.
