Description
UNITEDI STATES PATENT OEEICE.
D UANE BECK, OF ROCHELLE, ILLINOIS.
IMPRovEo' MoP-wRlNGER.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 69,694, dated October 8, 1,867.
To all whom it may concern:
Beit known that I, DUANE PECK, of Rochelle, in the county of Ogle and State of Illinois, have invented a new and Improved Mop- `\Vringer; and that the following description, taken in' connection with the laccompanying drawing, hereinafter referred to, forms a full and exact specification of the same, wherein I have set fort-h the nature and principles of my said improvements, by which my invention may be distinguished from all others of a similar class, together with such parts as I claim, and desire to have secured to me by Letters Patent.
This invention relates to a new and improved device for expressing' moisture from mops while using the same; and it consists in the employment or use oi' pressure-rol1ers in connection with a treadle, all arranged in such a manner as to admit ofthe mop being readily adjusted between the rollers, and operated upon by them so as to effectually express the moisture therefrom. v
In the accompanying drawing a side view of my invention is shown, partlyin section.
A represents the frame of the machine, the
'top of which is composed of. two inclined bars,
a a, each having a slot, b, made in it to receive the journals of a roller, B, said slots being of sufficient length to admit of considerable play or movement of said roller. The journals of this roller B, at the outer sides of the inclined bars a a, are fitted in one endof toggles O C, which are pivoted to the bars'a a, and the pivoted arms c of these toggles are connected by rods D with a treadle-frame, E, the
front end of which is provided with a foot piece, d.
The treadle-frame has springs F attached to it, which have a tendency to keep it elevated sucieutly far to holdthe roller B back in the slots b b, as shown in black in the drawing.
Gr is a roller, the journals of which are fitted in the bars a a, and bear against india-rubber or other springs d; which are at the front sides of the journals.
The roller B has a crank, H, at one end of it; and I is a pail, which is inserted in the frame A underneath the roller Gr.
` In order to wring or express the moisture from the mop, the latter is placed between the two rollers B G, and the `Front end of the treadle-frame E depressed or forced down by the foot, which forces the roller B down toward the rollerG, and causes the mop to be compressed between the two rollers. The roller B is then turned through the medium of the crank H, and the mop thereby worked `up and down between the rollers until the water is expressed from it, the water falling into pail I. Ou withdrawing the VJfoot from the treadle-frame, the spring F draw the former upward and the roller B is drawn back from roller G.
The device may be operated with the greatest ease, and a mop wrun g in a very short space of time. The springs d admit or" the roller G yielding or giving to a certain extent, which greatly facilitates the operation, and relieves the rollers of any undue strain.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- The roller B, sliding in the groove b of the inclined bars a, the toggle O c, rod D, treadle E, spring F, sliding roller Gr, bearing against 4the springs d, all combined and arranged to operate as herein described, for the.purpose specified.
DUANE PEOK.
