WILLIAM T. SMYTH, OF PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA.
soRuBBlNG-MACHINE.
Specitication forming i To all whonz'z't may concern:
, Be it known that I, WILLIAM THOMAS SHYTH, ot the cit-y and county ot' Philadelphia, in the State'of Pennsylvania', have invented a new and Improved Machinefor Scrubhing and Cleaning; and I do herebyleelare that the following -is a full and exact description thereof, reference being had'to the accompanying drawing, and to the letters of refer- -ator can move the mae'hi-neabout at pleasure, (it carryingits own weigh t,)
and can do so in a standing p'osition.
In the drawing, A represents the'top part ot' 'a are uprights or carrying brush-es C. Wheels D are "attached, tobottom piece,
which also .li as standards b passing up through A. Around these standards are spiral springs @which keep A and B apart.
E represent-s weights on the top of A, which tend to press the brushes (J upon the oor,
part ot' Lettersl Patent No. 52,220, dated January 23, 1866.
and, as it were, raise the wheels. Screws F may pass through A, and, working in B, serve the same or similar purpose as the weights Gis a hole i-n t-he top of A, through which to put a handle, g, for the operator to take hold of and push or work the machine. Another handle, f, can be inserted in one end ot' B. 'One' or both may be used. 'The handles may be located elsewhere, if preferred.
G G represent resvervoins'er water-vessels, arranged so that a desirable quantity of Water may drop upon` and Wet the floor during the working of the machine. The water can percolate through bottom B.
The operation is simply pulling or pushing thel machine over a door or pavement, (which a `child even can d'o,) the wheels relieving' greatly the operator, while the machine carries its own Weight or pressure.
The brushes may be multipliedl at pleasure, and a machinewith or two wheels may be made.
Having thus described my invention, what I claimas new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent ofthe United States, is-
The combination of the brushes() with the top piece, A, and wheeled bed structed and operating substantially as described, and for the purpose set forth.
