Description

:No. 696,785. Patent ed Apr. I, I902.
C. A. YABINI. TOOTHPICK HOLDER.
(Application filed Aug. 2, 1901.)
(llo Model.)
WITNESSES: INVENTOI? UNITED SA'rns CIRILO A. YARINI', on HAVANA, ouBA.
TOOTHPIK==HOLDER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 696,785, dated April 1, 1902.
Application filed August 2, 1901. $erial No.70,630. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CIRILO A. YARINI, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Havana, Cuba, have invented a new and Improved Toothpick-Holder, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
This invention relates to improvements in holders for toothpicks, particularly wooden or splint toothpicks and the object is to provide a holder of novel construction in which a bundle of picks may be placed and ejected one at a time as required for use, thus preventing the handling and possible soiling of the toothpicks remaining in the bundle.
I will describe a toothpick-holder embodying my invention and then point out the novel features in the appended claims.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, in which similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the figures.
Figurel is a longitudinal section of a toothpick-ho1der embodying my invention, and Fig. 2 is a section on the line w a; of Fig. 1.
The holder consists of 'a casing having a body portion 1, which as here shown is cy' lindrical and has a conical end 2, provided with a small opening 3 at its apex, through which a single toothpick is designed to pass. The bottom 4 of thecasing is removably attached to the body portion, as here shown by means of a screw-thread engagement, and it is provided at its center with a fin ger-piece 5, that may be readily grasped to remove or insert the bottom.
The bundle of toothpicks is generally contained in a holder 6, consisting of paper or the like, and this holder, with the picks, is to be inserted-into the body portion, and between the open upper end of the container and an annular shoulder 7, formed at the junction of the body portion and the conical end, is a retarding-plate 8. This retardingplate is closed at its central portion, but has at its edges openings 9, through which the picks may readily pass.
The object of the retarding-plate is to prevent the whole bundle of toothpicks 10 from passing into the conical end when the device is inverted, which would cause a crowding of the toothpicks in said. conical end and prevent one from discharging through the opening 3.
To remove a toothpick, the holder is to be .inverted, whereby a few of the picks will pass through the openings 9, as before men-- tioned, and one will pass out through the opening 3, it being understood that this open ing is but very slightly larger than the crosssection of a toothpick. The shoulder 7 will not only hold the retarding-plate in position, but will prevent a movement of the container 6 toward the conical end when the device is inverted.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent-- 1. A holder for toothpicks, comprising a casing having a conical end provided with an opening at its apex, a shoulder at the junction of said conical end and the body portion of the holder, and a retarding-plate for engaging against said shoulder, the said retarding-plate having openings around its edge,- substantially as specified.
2. A holder for toothpicks, comprising a casing having a conical end provided with an opening through which a pick may pass, the said end normally forming the top of the casing, a retarding-plate arranged at the base of said conical end and having openings around its edge, the center being imperforate, and a removable bottom for the casing, substantially as specified.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of
