Be it known that I, AMOS BURSON, a resident of Canonsburg, in the county of Washington and State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Holders for Papers, Envelops, duc.; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description thereof.

My invention relates to holders or clips for envelops, papers, dre., and has for one of its objects to provide a cheap and simple device for securely and compactly inclosing a package of envelops or other papers as well as one which can be easily and quickly attached and detached to and from the envelops or papers.

Another object of my invention is to provide such a device which will hold a large and small amount of envelops or papers, as well as envelops and papers of different lengths and widths, together.

My invention consists, generally stated, in the novel arrangement, construction, and combination of parts, as hereinafter more specifically set forth and described, and particularly pointed out in the claims.

To enable others skilled in the art to which my invention appertains to construct and use the device, I will describe the same more fully, referring to the accompanying drawings, forming part. of this specification, in which- Figure l is a perspective View ot my improved holder or clip applied to a bunch or package of envelops or papers. Fig. 2 is a face view of the holder or clip detached from the package. Fig. 3 is a like view of another form of the holder or clip, and Fig. 4 is a similar view of another form of the holder or clip differing from that shown in Figs. l and 2.

side portions 4 turned at right angles to form the end portions S, and both of the members 2 have their end portions 7 projected inwardly, as at 9, from the portions 8, which are provided at their terminations with the interlocking eyes 10 for connecting and holding them together. The member 3 is formed of the bar ll, and it is provided with the interlocking eye 12 at each end for connecting it to the interlocking eyes 10 on the members 2.

The use and operation of my improved holder or clip for envelops, papers, tbc., are as follows: One of the intermediate inwardlyprojecting spring portions 5 on the side portion 4 of one member 2 is placed over the side of the package or bunch of envelops, papers, dac., when the opposite inwardly-projecting spring portion 5 on the side portion 4 of the other member 2 can be pulled over and spring against the side of the bunch of envelops, papers, dac., adjacent to and opposite the first projecting spring portion 5 put in place. When the holder l is in position and applied around the bunch A, as described, the iiexiloility of the wire and its elasticity will cause considerable pressure to be eX- erted on the opposite sides by the inwardlyprojecting portions 9 on the end portions 7 of the members 2 on one side of the bunch and the intervening projecting portions 5 and loops 6 thereon on the members 2 on the opposite side of the bunch A, while a bar ll between the inwardly-projecting portions 9 also acts to exert considerable springpressure upon that side of the bunch. When it is desired to open the holder 1 for removal from the bunch A, one of the projecting spring portions 5 on one ot' the members 2 can be raised and pulled over the edge of the bunch, and in this position it can be removed by retaining the hold on said inember 2 and pulling or pushing backward toward the other member 2, which will release the other spring portion 5 from the bunch. After one of the spring portions 5 is thus removed from the bunch A and it is desired to add to the bunch such envelops or papers to be added can be placed between the other parts of the bunch or under the spring portion 5 in place and the removed spring portion 5 spring back to place, and when it is IOO desired to withdraw from the bunch A the one spring portion 5 can be opened and the envelop or paper withdrawn from the bunch or under the other spring portion 5 in place and the removed spring portion 5 sprung back to position.

In Fig. 3 the bar ll is provided with the bent spring portions ll therein for the purpose of giving resiliency thereto and to the holder l, if desired, and the bar ll shown in Fig. 4 is made longer than that shown in Fig. 2 to provide for shorter end portions 7 on the members 2.

By reason of the end portions of the members being projected inwardly the holder will clasp the package or bunch whether it is short or long, and the bar between such ends prevents them from springing out and allows the holder to adjust itself to any Width or style ofl package or bunch, as Well as preventing the package from bending and also retaining short papers or envelops within the package.

rPhe device is cheap and simple in its coustruction and operation, is not liable to get out of order, and aiords an easy and rapid means for the objects and purposes in View.

What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-l 1. A holder for Aenvelops, papers, dac., consisting of a wire formed of parallel side members having inwardly projecting looped spring portions thereon adapted to bear against one side of the package, parallel connecting end members joining the side members and provided with inwardly-projecting portions thereon connected together at their ends for bearing against the opposite side of the package, and a bar connecting the ends of the said inwardly-projecting portions on the end members.

2. A holder for envelops, papers, dro., consisting of a Wire formed of side members having inwardly-projecting looped spring portions thereon adapted to bear against one side of the package, end members joining the side members by right-angle portions, in-

wardly-projecting portions on said end meming inwardly-projecting looped spring portions thereon adapted to bear against one side of the package, end members joining the side members by right-angle portions, in-

wardly-projeoting portions on said end members joining the right-angle portions and connected together by loops attheir ends for bearing against the opposite side of the package, and a bar connecting the loop ends of the said inwardly-projecting portions on the end members.

4. A holder for envelops, papers, the., consisting of a wire formed of parallel side members havinginwardly-projectinglooped spring portions thereon adapted to bear against one side of the package, parallel connecting end members joining the side members and provided with inwardly projecting portions thereon connected together at their ends for bearing against the opposite side ofthe package, and a spring-bar connecting the ends of the said inwardly-projecting portions on the end members.

5. A holder for envelops, papers, dac., consisting of a wire formed of side members having inwardly-projecting looped spring portions thereon adapted to bear against one side of the package, end members joining the side members by rightangle portions, inwardly-projecting portions on said end members joining the right-angle portions and connected together at their ends for bearing against the opposite side of the package, and aspring-bar connecting the ends of the said inwardly-projecting portions on the end members.

6. A holder for envelops, papers, thc., consisting of a wire formed of side members having inwardly-projecting looped spring portions thereon adapted to bear against one side of the package, end members joining the side members by right-angle portions, inwardly-projecting portions on said end members joining the right-angle portions and connected together by loops at their ends for bearing against the opposite side of the package, and a spring-bar connecting the loop ends of the said inwardly-projecting portions on the end members.
