ZE BULON LINCOLN OIIA-DBOURNE,
ATENT rrrcE.
OF NEW BRIGHTON, NEIV YORK.
HANGER-EYE FOR HAMMOCKS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 695,372, dated March 11, 1902.
Application filed July 25, 1901.
To It 1077/0777 it may concern.-
Be it known that I, ZuBULoN LINCOLN CHADBOURNE, a citizen of the United States, residing at New Brighton, in the county of Richmond and State of New York, have invented new and useful Improvements in Hanger-Eyes for Hammocks, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to hammock hangereyes; and the object of the same is to construct a hanger which will hold the converging cords of a hammock distinct and spread out in a fan shape, and thus keep the hammock smooth. This is accomplished by the simple and novel construction described in this specification and claimed, and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, forming a part thereof, in Which-- Figure 1 is a longitudinal section of my device. Fig. 2 is a transverse section on the line 2 2, Fig. 1.
Like numerals of reference designate like parts in the different views of the drawings.
The numeral 1 designates a U-shaped eye, which is formed integral with a cylindrical casing 2, open at one end at 3 and closed at the other at 4, but for an aperture 5. The cylinder 2 is slotted longitudinally along the bottom at 6 to accommodate the hangingcords of a hammock. A cap 7, having a rim 8 thereon, snugly fits the open end 3 of the cylinder 2. The cap 7 is also apertured at 9 to accommodate a bolt 10, which passes through the apertures 9 and 5. This bolt 10 is provided with a head 11 and threaded por- Serial No. 69,692. (No model.)
tion 12, hearing a nut 12, and serves to ongage and hold the looped cords of the hammock.
In operation the looped cords are engaged on the bolt 10 and slipped along into the slot 6, after which the cap 7 and nut 12' are put on and the nut tightened up.
Having described my invention, what I claim as new, and wish to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. In a device of the class described, the combination of an eye, a cylinder open at one end, apertured at the other and formed integral with said eye, said cylinder being slot-' ted longitudinally to accommodate the cords of a hammock, an apertured cap fitting over the open end of said cylinder, and a bolt passing through said cylinder and said cap, substantially as described.
2. In a device of the class described, the combination of ahollow cylinder-casing having an eye formed integral therewith, said cylinder being traversed by a longitudinal slot, and apertured at both ends, a rod extending longitudinally said casing and passing through said apertures, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand in presence of two subscribing witnesscs.
ZEBULON LINCOLN CHADBOURUE.
