A further object of the invention resides in providing a bonnet or cover for the broom head and still another object resides in providing a device which is simple and durable in construction, inexpensive to manufacture and one which will be very eflicient and useful in operation. 4
With these and other objects in view, the invention consists in the novel features of construction, combination and arrangementof parts as will be hereinafter referred to and more particularly pointed out in the specification and claim.
In the accompanying drawing forming a part of this application, Figure 1 is a perspective view of the device partly in section. Fig. 2 is a vertical section therethrough. Fig. 3 is a horizontal section through the same as seen on line 33, Fig. 2.
In describing our invention, we shall refer to the drawing in which similar reference characters designate corresponding parts throughout the several views and in WlllCl1 1 indicates the broom proper and 2 the handle therefor, extending through the head of the same. Wrapped tightly around the broom head, adjacent its extreme upper end, is a metallic band 3 which has 'a portion thereof disposed through the head and engaged with the lower portion of the handle 2. This band forms a substantial clamping meansfor retaining the broom to the handle and at the same time secures the straws in Specification of Letters Patent.

This wire member 4 steadies the broom on the handle and also serves a purpose to be hereinafter and more particularly described. 1
Extending over the head of the broom and receiving the handle 2 therethrough, is a cloth bonnet or cover 5, which fits tightly about the broom head and has the lower edges thereof wrapped around the wire 4 and stitched in place. This cloth bonnet gives the broom a neat finish and at the same time aids in the retention of the straws in place at their upper ends;
The metal band 3 and the wire band 4, together with the bonnet 5, are applied to the broom in the manufacture thereof, although these members may be applied to any broom now in use and it will be seen that with the use of such members, the life of a broom will i and this shoulder: and the upper portion of the broom proper is then covered by the cloth bonnet above referred to. Thus the laborious and expensive bending of the fiber of the corn over and into engagement with the handle as is now the case, is eliminated and a much cheaper form of device substituted therefor. In this cheap formation of the broom, a device is presented which is equally, if not more, durable and efficient than the brooms formed by the more expensive means above referred to.
From the foregoing it will be seen that we have provided a simple, inexpensive and efiicient means for carrying out the objects of the invention and while we have particularly described the elements best adapted to perform the functions set forth, it is obvious that various changes in form,'proportion and in the minor details of construction may be resorted to without departing fromthe spirit.
