INSUFFLATOR.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 693,587, dated February 18, 1902. Application filed November 11,1901. Serial No. 81,924. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, EUGENIA G. OAMPBELL,a citizen of the United States, residing at San Francisco,in the county of San Francisco,State of California, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Insuftlators; andIdo hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of said invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to niake'and use the same.
My invention has for its object the production of an insufflator of improved construction, by the operation of which dry medicinal remedies may be readily applied without recession of the powder consequent upon the inflation of the bulb after compression of the latter.
The nature of my invention will be readily comprehended, reference being had to the following description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 is an elevation,.partly in section, of an insuffiator embodying my invention. Fig. 2 is a detail view of a measuring-stopper employed in connection with the instrument.
In the drawings, A designates a casin g having a chamber a, to the lower end of which is connected by a rubber tube 1) an air-bulb c. The chamber a receives in practice the medicine, which is in dry powdered form and introduced through an opening a in the upper end of the chamber, the opening being closed byastopper cZ, having a scoop-blade d,
by which the powder maybe measured. The casing has a side extension A, to the outer end of which is fitted a speculum-tube e. The extension has exteriorly a sealing-flange a A passage a leads from the chamber a through the extension and connects with a blow-tube f, which terminates short of the end of the speculum-tube.
a denotes an air-duct which connects at its inner end with an air-tube g, the end of the latter being contiguous to the end of the blow-tube.
In practice the introduced powder is expelled through the tube f by compression of the bulb, and the partial vacuum created in the latter is filled by air supplied by the duct and tube g. In the inflation of the bulb,therefore, there is no recession 0r sucking back of the powder; but, on the contrary, the entire contents of the chamber are delivered and applied tothe affected part.
I claim as my invention An insufliator havingachamber for the material, an air-bulb connected with the chamber, a blow-tube leading from the chamber, an air-tube for supplying air to the blow-tube forthe inflation of the bulb, and a speculumtube inclosing the air and blow tubes.
