TO ALL WHOM IT MAY CONCERN:
Be it known that I, SYLVESTER J. WRIGHT, of Ellsworth,- in the county of St. Lawrence, and State of New York, have invented a new and improved Stretcher for Drying Hose; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, .clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification, in which Figure 1 is a side view of my improved stretcher.
Figure 2 is a cross-section of the same, taken through the line :1. :r, fig. 1.
' Similar letters of reference indicate like parts.
My invention has for'its ohject to furnish an improved instrument, by means of which hose may not only be kept from shrinking while drying after being washed, but may also be shaped to the foot or leg; and it consists of an improved stretcher, constructed in the manner hereinafter more fully described.
A is the frontpar which is made in one piece, and in substantially the shape shown in fig. l. The other part of the stretcher is made in two pieces I} and C. ,The piece B, which forms the heel and the lower part of the foot, is connected to the part A by a plate, D, which enters slots formed in the said parts A and B to serve as a guide to keep the two parts in a line with each other while being used. The plate D may be pivoted to one or both the parts A and B, or to one of them, as may be desired. The parts A and B are adjusted so as to give the proper form and size to the foot of the stocking by means of the double screw E, screwed into the two parts A and B, and operated to draw the said parts closer together, or force them further apart, by means of a 'lev'er-pininsertcd in thc hole in the middle part of said scrcw. The part C is hinged to the part- B, as shown in fig. 1, by the plate or hinge F. The parts C and A are kept in line with each other while being operated by the guide-plate G, placed in slots in the upper ends of the said parts, andpivoted or secured to the one or other ol' said parts by a pin, as shown in figs. 1 and '2. The parts 13 and C are'adjusted at the proper distance apart, to give the desired size and form to the stocking-leg, by the screw H, screwed into one of said parts, with its head resting against the other part, and operated by a. lever-pin inserted in a hole formed in the head of said screw. I is an elastic strap, attached to the upper ends of the parts A and C to hold them together while being used. 7
By this instrument white woollen hose, after being washed, inay be kept from shrinking while dryingand, at the same time, such a form may be given to them as will fit the foot and leg of the wearer, the screws E and H enabling the instrument to be adjusted to any desired size.
If desired, the screws E and 11 may both be double screws, screwing into the two parts which they connect; or they may both be single screws, screwing into one part, and pressing against the other part; or one may be a. double screw, and the other a. single one, as shown in fig. 1.
I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent An improved stretcher for drying hose, formed by the combination of the parts A, B, and C with can, other, substantially in the manner herein shown and described.
SYLVESTER J. WRIGHT.
