TO ALL WHOM IT MAY CONCERN:
Be known that I, FREDERICK WOOD, of Bridgeport, in the county of Fairfield; and State of Connecticut', have invented a new Mode of Securing Whip-Sockets to Carriages; and I do hereby declare the following, whentaken in connection with the accompanying drawings and the letters of reference' marked thereon, to be a full, clear, and exact description of lthc saine, and-which said drawings constitute part of this specification, und represent, iny Figure l, a top view.
Figure 2, an edge view.
Figures 3 and 4, the twoparts,.the one turned from the other to show the inside of the connection.
Figure V''t'he 'two parts detach-eu, and in l i' Figure 6 as set together.
This invention relates to an .improvement in the clasp which is used for securing whipsockets to carriages, and consists inthe peculiarconstruction of the two parts of the clasp so as to attach the socket to a horizontal bar, as the rail of a coach-seat, and without other ccnncctionthan that employc'dfor securing the two parts together.
In order/to the clear nderstanding of my invention, as well as to enable others to constructYA the same, I will proceed to a description thereof, as illustrated in the accompanying drawings. i v
A is the one part and B the otherpart, eaeh provided with a prong, C, thc one turning to the right, the other to the left, so as to nearly or .quite encircle the socket. The two parts A and B'have similar but' sinaller prongs D, at right angles to A and B, as seen in Sg. 2, which encircle the horizontal bar. The two parts A,
and B have formed upon their meeting surfaces a groove, cig-upon one part, a' corresponding V, d, on the other part, and an inclinc,f, on both parts, as seen inA iig.- 5, so that when set together, as in iig.. 6, theincline and V tend to draw the two parts together, so that the screw E, or an equivalent therefor, inserted through the two parts, secures themfirmiy together, as seen in figs.1 and 2. 'lo attach the socket, open thetwo parts and place the prongs C around the'socket, and the prongs D around' the horizontal bar at thev proper point, then secure the two parts together by thevin'sertion of the screw E, or otherwise, andthe socket is securelyv and rrnly heldA in a neat and durable' manner.
Havingthus fully described my invention,'what I claim as new and useful, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is I The herein-described clasp for securing whip-sockets, constructed so as to be attached and united in the manner set forth, as an improved article of manufacture. i
